Kelly (shoulder) is expected to start Saturday against the Indians, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander seemed the most likely candidate for the start with Sean O'Sullivan designated for assignment and Eduardo Rodriguez still experiencing knee issues, and manager John Farrell all but confirmed that Kelly will indeed get the nod. Kelly remains difficult to trust, but he did turn in a strong performance in his most recent start with Triple-A Pawtucket, tossing 6.1 scoreless frames while striking out 10. He's issued a total of three walks in his three rehab starts (14.1 innings).

Kelly (shoulder) is an option to start for Boston on Saturday, Mass Live reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly tossed his third rehabilitation start Monday, getting his pitch count up to 92 and pitching 6.1 scoreless innings for Triple-A Pawtucket. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out 10. The Red Sox were rained out Monday, forcing them to use two pitchers in a doubleheader Wednesday. This means they'll need a fifth starter Saturday, and Kelly would be pitching on normal rest.

Kelly (shoulder) will make another rehab start Monday at Triple-A Pawtucket, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Eduardo Rodriguez also nearing a return from the disabled list, the Red Sox will have to make a decision between Kelly, Rodriguez, and Steven Wright for the No. 5 starter spot. Wright has more than held his own thus far while filling in, but his performance in his next scheduled start Wednesday in Kansas City may go a long way toward guiding the team's decision.

Kelly (shoulder) may not require another rehab start before coming off the disabled list, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly is scheduled to be evaluated by team doctors Friday in Boston, and if all goes well, it appears the Red Sox would be comfortable with activating him without sending him out for another rehab start. However, there is no official timetable for Kelly's return at this point. He has been sidelined for roughly three weeks due to a shoulder impingement, but he's been able to make a pair of starts at Triple-A Pawtucket and has looked solid in those outings. Friday's medical checkup figures to shed more light on Kelly's potential return date.

Kelly allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out three in five innings during his second rehabilitation start for Triple-A Pawtucket.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly was more in command in his second start, throwing 48 of his 77 pitches for strikes. According to Pawtucket's play-by-play guy, Will Flemming, the right-hander's final two pitches of the night his 97 and 98 mph. The organization probably wants to get his pitch count up they bring him back to Boston, so you can expect at least one more start.

Kelly (shoulder) tossed three innings in his first rehabilitation start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, the Providence Journal reports. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly had some difficulty commanding as just 28 of his 52 pitches went for strikes, but he was overall pleased with the outing. He didn't let loose with the fastball until his final inning, when he eventually touched 95 mph. Kelly is expected to make at least two more rehab starts, according to the Boston Globe.

Kelly (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is set to make a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell said Kelly will need at least two rehab starts. The question remains whether or not Kelly returns to Boston's rotation. With Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) nearing a return to Boston, he will likely replace Henry Owens in the current iteration of the rotation. There isn't an obvious replacement when Kelly is ready to return. Steven Wright, who pitched well again Tuesday, deserves to hold his spot. That would leave Clay Buchholz, who has not pitched well to start the season, but has a track record of rebounding from poor starts.

Kelly (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Friday, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly has been on the 15-day DL since April 20 and is now beginning to throw bullpen sessions as part of his rehabilitation. He is expected to throw another bullpen session Tuesday and, depending on how it goes, could be close to starting a rehab assignment.

Kelly (shoulder) began a throwing program, playing catch from out to 90 feet Tuesday, the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly landed on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder impingement and has no timetable for a return. By the time he's ready to pitch again, there might not be room for him in the starting rotation: the Red Sox should have Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) back and Steven Wright (1.40 ERA) may very well have solidified his hold on a spot in the rotation.

Wednesday's MRI on Kelly's shoulder revealed no structural damage, but the Red Sox have yet to release a timetable for his return, Mike Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly was officially diagnosed with a shoulder impingement following Wednesday's MRI, but it's still too early for the team's medical staff to approximate a potential return date for the right-handed starter. His absence leaves the Red Sox in a lurch in terms of their rotation; however, the club won't need to fill Kelly's spot until Sunday. At this point, the early candidates to fill in for Kelly are Henry Owens, Roenis Elias, or Brian Johnson.
