Kelly pitched two scoreless innings Friday to pick up the save for Triple-A Pawtucket. He allowed one hit and struck out three without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly was impressive in his first appearance out of the bullpen at the Triple-A level, striking out the side in the ninth inning -- all swinging strikes. If Kelly sustains this type of success in a relief role, he could be called up to Boston to shore up a bullpen that has shown some cracks this season. Red Sox manager John Farrell told Christopher Smith of Mass Live that he wants Kelly to be a multi-inning reliever, a role in which Kelly can use all of his pitches. "I wouldn't want a pitcher to eliminate a pitch because he's in another role," Farrell said. "Now, it's going to be dependent on what attack plan for a given hitter. There may be games where his curveball may be more of a feel for him than his slider."

Kelly is scheduled to make two more relief appearances with Single-A Lowell on Saturday and Monday, Scott Lauber of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly will rejoin Triple-A Pawtucket after making both of his scheduled rehab relief appearances. Red Sox manager John Farrell wants to use Kelly as a multi-inning reliever when he eventually makes his way back to Boston. Kelly coming back as a reliever will pretty much diminish his fantasy value, but an injury to a starter in the current rotation could change that very quickly.

Kelly (groin) will continue his rehab program with Single-A Lowell, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly made his first rehab appearance on Wednesday, tossing a scoreless inning in Single-A Lowell's game against Auburn. He figures to throw relief outings on Friday and Monday for Lowell before a possible call up decision is made. Given the All-Star Break is just around the corner, the 28-year-old will likely make his return to the Red Sox when they begin a series against the Yankees on July 15.

Kelly (groin) tossed one scoreless inning of relief for short-season Lowell on Wednesday, walking one and striking out one.
EDGE Analysis
Thus begins Kelly's transition to reliever for the Red Sox, who feel he can be a power arm in the late innings. He's scheduled to appear in another game this weekend for the Spinners, before reporting to Triple-A Pawtucket. The potential to be activated and added to Boston's roster after the All-Star game is a possibility.

Kelly (groin) will make his first rehab appearance Wednesday for Short-Season Lowell, the Portland Press Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
This will be Kelly's first outing after the Red Sox announced he will be transitioning from starting to relieving. The right-hander is scheduled to pitch again Saturday at Lowell, then head to Triple-A Pawtucket next week, though it sounds as if he may not be required to pitch for the PawSox. "Whether or not the need arises before that first appearance in Pawtucket, that's all to be gauged," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. In other words, the pitching-desperate Red Sox may call him up before Kelly throws a pitch out of the PawSox's bullpen.

Kelly (groin) will pitch out of the Red Sox's bullpen when he is activated from the DL shortly after the All-Star break, the Providence Journal's Tim Britton reports.
EDGE Analysis
This has seemingly been years in the waiting, as Kelly has always shown solid stuff with no feel for turning a lineup over. He could offer solid strikeouts and ratios if he embraces the role change, but he is behind several pitchers in Boston's bullpen in the hunt for saves and holds.

Kelly (groin) reported no setback after he throwing 20 pitches off a mound Thursday, Bill Koch of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell said Kelly's next bullpen session will likely come Saturday, according to Conor Ryan of Mass Live, with the manager adding that the right-hander will need at least two successful sessions before he returns to game action.

Kelly (groin) threw off of a mound Thursday, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kelly has been on the shelf for three weeks with a groin issue, and Thursday marked the first time he's thrown off a mound since the injury. Barring a setback, Kelly could soon progress to a rehab assignment, which could take place at either Triple-A, where he's currently assigned, or a lower level in the organization.

Kelly (groin) is expected to throw his first bullpen session since his injury this coming weekend, Christopher Smith of Mass Live reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell said Kelly will continue to long toss until he throws off a mound. The manager, according to Jen McCaffrey of Mass Live, also said during a weekly radio interview that the team may have Kelly move to the bullpen "at some point."

Kelly (groin) has been throwing off flat ground, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell indicated that he'd like to see Kelly be able to throw from 180 feet before progressing to throwing off a mound, so it sounds as though Kelly remains without a set date to return to action. The 28-year-old had been sent down to the minors after struggling to a 8.46 ERA through six major league starts, so he figures to remain at Triple-A at least temporarily once healthy.
