After starter Mitch Atkins allowed six runs in just 1 2/3 innings on Sunday, Jeremy Guthrie was called on to pitch in relief, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings of Baltimore's 8-6 loss in Boston. The outing came on just three days of rest for Guthrie, who ended up throwing 73 pitches. The relief appearance was his second of the season after he threw an inning in Baltimore's 4-1, 15-inning loss to the Yankees on May 18. He enters the All-Star break with a 4.18 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.
