Jered Weaver has been scratched from his start Friday against the Mariners due to forearm tightness. Matt Shoemaker will start in his place. Weaver also had some forearm problems earlier this year and it would come as no surprise to hear the Angels are shutting him down. The 30-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.36 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 115/36 K/BB ratio in 147 1/3 frames.

Jered Weaver held the Astros to two runs in six innings Saturday in the Angels' 6-2 victory. Weaver experienced a bit of right forearm tightness during his start earlier this week against the Rays, but the discomfort did not return on Saturday night and he only made a couple of mistakes against a weak Astros lineup. The 30-year-old right-hander is 10-8 with a 3.36 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 115/36 K/BB ratio in 147 1/3 innings (23 starts) this season. He is scheduled to face off against the Mariners next.

While he hasn't matched his tremendous numbers from the past two year, Weaver has still pitched extremely well this season, compiling a 3.30 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 102/32 K/BB ratio over 128 1/3 innings. He'll look to earn his third straight victory when he does battle against the Rays at home on Wednesday.

At the very least, this was progress after Weaver was spanked for nine runs in five innings against the Yankees on Wednesday. Weaver wears an ugly 6.31 ERA in four August starts, but opportunity knocks on Sunday with a tasty matchup in Seattle against Aaron Harang.

Alfonso Soriano abused him for two home runs, and Weaver allowed nine hits in all. The right-hander's ERA rose from 2.87 to 3.49 after the start. He'll try to get back on track against the Indians on Monday.
