Hoffman will compete for the Rockies' final rotation spot this spring, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
At this time, the top four spots in the rotation seem to belong to Jon Gray, German Marquez, Tyler Anderson and Chad Bettis. This leaves one spot for either Hoffman, Kyle Freeland or Antonio Senzatela. Hoffman certainly has the most prospect pedigree of the trio, although his numbers in the majors have left much to be desired. The 25-year-old holds a career 5.65 ERA and 1.53 WHIP to go with a 7.2 K/9. His FIP is 50 points lower than his ERA, but his struggles at Coors Field and his control issues the past two years make him a risky bet heading into 2018. He'll need to pitch well this spring to crack the big-league roster.

Hoffman finished the regular season with a 5.89 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP in 99.1 innings pitched.
EDGE Analysis
The former pitching prospect struggled mightily following his September callup, sporting a 12.91 ERA and a 2.48 WHIP in 7.2 innings in relief. Hoffman's future still lies in the rotation, but he doesn't strike out enough batters to make up for his control issues. He needs to have a strong showing in spring training to ensure he remains in the Rockies' future plans, otherwise German Marquez and Kyle Freeland will continue to keep him out of the rotation.

Hoffman was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Hoffman returns to the big-league club with the expansion of the roster, and could potentially make his way back into the rotation in the near future. Manager Bud Black hasn't addressed the situation as of yet, but the right-hander has made 16 starts for Colorado this season, with the latest coming against the Braves on Aug. 17.

Hoffman was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The Rockies will hit the reset button with Hoffman, who served up four home runs in 4.1 innings Thursday and dropped his fourth straight decision. He has struggled in a major way at home, as most pitchers do at Coors Field, and it's hard to imagine Hoffman will shed the "streamer" label even if he regains his form by September. Colorado could turn to Antonio Senzatela or Tyler Chatwood, or dip into the farm system, to replace Hoffman in the rotation.

Hoffman (6-5) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out a single batter through just 4.1 innings during Thursday's loss to Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Hoffman allowed four home runs to the Braves, and he's now allowed 11 bombs through his past nine starts. His 5.30 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 7.2 K/9 are also underwhelming marks, and calling Coors Field home doesn't project to help Hoffman moving forward, either. There is upside for road contests, but being selective with his starts is encouraged. He lines up to face the Royals at Kauffman Stadium next.

Hoffman (6-4) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out one across five innings to take the loss Saturday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Hoffman entered the fourth inning in a 1-1 tie, but he then gave up a three-run homer to Giancarlo Stanton, and as a result, he dropped his fourth decision of the year. He's allowed at least four earned runs in five of his last seven starts, and his ERA sits at 5.15, making him a high-risk fantasy option. He'll make his next start Friday against the Brewers.

Hoffman was masterful Sunday against the Phillies, allowing just one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision.
EDGE Analysis
Hoffman turned in his best Coors Field outing of the season, with his only blemish coming via a Maikel Franco solo homer in the second inning. Alas, a rare Greg Holland blown save cost the right-hander a win. Still, Hoffman's completely turned things around with just three runs allowed in 13 innings over his past two starts after posting a 9.45 ERA in his previous four. He'll be back on the road for his next appearance Saturday in Miami.

Hoffman held the Mets to two runs on five hits over six innings at Coors Field on Tuesday, striking out five and walking three in a no-decision.
EDGE Analysis
Having surrendered 21 earned runs with a 10:10 K:BB in 20 innings spanning his prior four starts, Hoffman wasn't likely a popular choice for Tuesday's fantasy lineups, but he delivered his finest performance since a late-June start against the Giants. Though he's still relatively young with upside, Coors isn't doing him any favors; however, he does have a 3.65 ERA and 1.03 WHIP on the road, suggesting he might have some selective streaming appeal in deeper leagues.

Hoffman (6-3) coughed up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings in Wednesday's 10-5 loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Even away from Coors Field, the right-hander couldn't find a way to turn things around. Hoffman now has a brutal 8.44 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 22:18 K:BB in 37.1 innings over his last seven starts, making him a radioactive fantasy play the next time he takes the mound Tuesday at home against the Mets.
