Hoffman was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and will start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander will start Tuesday after Jon Gray (ankle) was a late scratch. The severity of Gray's injury is unclear. Hoffman's appearance will likely only be a spot start unless Gray is forced to miss a second turn through the rotation. Hoffman carries an ERA of 6.57 in eight starts at the major-league level this year.

Hoffman held the Nationals scoreless through four innings, but was burned on a three-run homer by Anthony Rendon in the fifth inning. He wasn't particularly dominant however, as he allowed multiple baserunners in three frames and closed the third inning with the bases loaded. However, he should have a chance to stick in the rotation with the recent demotion of Antonio Senzatela. Assuming Hoffman takes his next turn through the rotation in order, he'll draw his next start Wednesday against the Dodgers.

The Rockies will likely keep Hoffman available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's doubleheader, but don't expect manager Bud Black to call on him unless the team has already exhausted its other relief options.
