With Miguel Cabrera on the DL, Martinez moved into the cleanup spot Saturday and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run shot, his 22nd home run of the season.
It's his third home run in five games and ninth in his last 11, as Martinez seems to be re-discovering his early April form. The Tigers will need him to keep slugging while Miggy is sidelined, but Martinez's .284/.338/.555 slash line on the season suggests he'll be up to the task.

Martinez continued his power surge Thursday, going 1-for-5 with his 18th homer of the season.
Martinez just keeps on piling up the homers, as he's now gone long in consecutive games and five times in the last four. This recent stretch has done a lot to boost his RBI total, too -- if Martinez can avoid prolonged slumps, he has a legitimate chance at challenging 100.

Martinez represented the sum of the Tigers' scoring Wednesday, going 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in an 8-2 loss to Cleveland.
Martinez took an 0-for-4 and a day off following Sunday's three-homer performance, but he wasted little time hitting his 17th of the year out of the yard. Seven of those long balls have come in his last 10 games, so Martinez is truly rounding into midseason form.

Martinez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Indians.
Martinez owns a sizzling .940 OPS in June, but he is 1-for-9 with seven strikeouts in his career against Indians starter Danny Salazar, so he will be held out with Salazar on the bump Tuesday night. Rajai Davis will get the nod in right field in Martinez's place.

Martinez had a huge game Sunday against the Yankees, hitting three homers and driving in six runs.
He hit a pair of bombs off Masahiro Tanaka, then got rookie reliever Danny Burawa for the third. Martinez continues to demonstrate -- with emphasis -- that last year's breakout was no fluke. The average has, predictably, come down from last year's unsustainable .315, but he's still hitting a credible .275 and looks to be a legitimate 30-homer threat.

Martinez stayed red-hot Monday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Martinez has been on an absolute tear recently, homering in three straight games while driving in seven runs. The outfielder has raised his batting average to .270 during this hot streak, and now has 13 home runs and 34 RBI for the season.

Martinez went 2-for-4 Saturday with a double, two RBI and his 11th home run of the season.
He's now slashing .262/.325/.463 on the season, and while he wasn't able to maintain his scalding April home run pace, Martinez is still providing solid value.

Martinez is out of the lineup Friday against the Indians.
Martinez is 1-for-9 against Indians pitcher Danny Salazar for his career, so Friday's game must have seemed like a good opportunity to rest the Tigers' everyday right fielder. Tyler Collins will get the start in right field Friday.

Martinez smacked an 0-1 fastball over the right-field fence to drive in three runs to key a 6-2 win over the Astros on Friday night. He finished the game 2-for-3 with a strikeout and was also hit by a pitch.
The homer erased a 2-0 deficit and pushed the Tigers into a 3-2 lead. It was Martinez's ninth home run and was particularly delicious for the fielder who had been released by the Astros early in the 2014 season.

Martinez smacked a single and a double in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Brewers. He finished 2-for-4 and extended his current hit streak to nine consecutive games.
He's only struck out six times in those nine games -- that's 32 at bats. And that's a far cry from where he was earlier this month (14 SO in just 29 AB). His streak has been somewhat unproductive, though -- he has just four extra-base hits in those 32 at bats and just two RBI, both courtesy of solo home runs. At least he's getting his batting eye on track and making solid contact. The power should come.
