James Shields yielded two runs in seven innings Friday in a no-decision against the Astros.
Shields allowed nine hits and three walks while fanning six. He has gone at least seven innings while allowing two runs or fewer in six out of his last seven starts, but he doesn't have any wins to show for it. That's right. Zero. He has a tough matchup against the Tigers next week, so hopefully there's finally some run support in his future.

James Shields lost a fourth straight start after giving up six runs in six innings against the Cardinals on Monday.
It's four straight losses, but this is the first one that's his fault; it's just the second time all year that he's allowed more than three runs. Shields has been everything the Royals hoped he'd be when they gave up Wil Myers to get him. The rest of the team, however, has some problems.

James Shields allowed just two runs in seven innings but took the loss against the Astros on Wednesday.
Shields committed one mistake, a two-run homer by J.D. Martinez, but the Astros pitchers made it stand up to saddle Shields with his fifth loss. He was otherwise stellar, allowing seven hits while striking out seven on the night. Despite the 2-5 record, Shields has been as good as advertised for the Royals this season, now owning a 2.47 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP. He will get the Cardinals next.

James Shields pitched very well in a losing effort against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over eight innings of work.
Shields struck out five and walked two in the ballgame. Aside from an unearned run in the first inning, the only damage against him was a two-run homer from Vernon Wells in the third inning. His 2-3 record certainly doesn't do him any justice, as Shields has been tremendous this season. He owns a 2.48 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 53/14 K/BB ratio through his first 58 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column when he does battle against the Athletics in Oakland on Friday.

James Shields allowed just two hits in eight scoreless innings against the White Sox on Monday, but got stuck with a no-decision in Kansas City's 2-1, 10-inning loss.
Shields struck out nine and walked two as he lowered his ERA and WHIP to 2.52 and 0.96, respectively. Shields is doing exactly what he was acquired to do, but has just a 2-2 record to show for it through seven starts thanks to the Royals' uneven offense. Big Game James will bring a 48/12 K/BB ratio (50 IP) into his Saturday start against the Yankees.
