James Shields pitched eight strong innings Thursday, holding the Tigers to three runs on five hits and three walks in the 8-3 extra innings victory.

He whiffed four and threw 109 pitches on the day. Shields exited with the game tied, and the Royals eventually pulled out the win with a five-run outburst in the 10th. Though he's registered just one win so far, Shields boasts a nice 3.09 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in his first five starts. He'll face his former team, the Rays, for the first time next week.
