James Shields tossed seven scoreless innings on Friday, earning the Royals a sweep of their doubleheader against the Tigers. Shields allowed just three hits and four walks in the game, and recorded just one punch out. Despite his 8-8 record on the season, Shields has compiled a 3.19 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 137/56 K/BB ratio. He's now won four of his last five starts, and has been a big part of the reason the Royals are contending for a Wild Card spot currently. He'll look to keep on rolling when he squares off against the White Sox at home on Thursday.

James Shields allowed two runs in six innings Thursday in a win over the Twins. Make that nine wins in a row for the Royals. Shields was uncharacteristically wild, matching a season-high with five walks, but the Twins failed to cash in on scoring opportunities. After going without a victory for nearly two months, Shields has now won four out of his last seven starts. He'll carry a 3.08 ERA into another start against the Twins next week.

James Shields fired seven scoreless innings in Friday's victory over the White Sox, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out two. While his 5-7 record may not indicate it, Shields has been every bit the ace of the rotation that he was acquired to be this season. Through 148 2/3 innings, he owns a 3.09 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 124/42 K/BB ratio. He'll look to carry over the momentum from this start when he faces the Twins in Minnesota on Thursday.

James Shields allowed three runs on nine hits over seven innings in a loss against the Tigers on Sunday. Kansas City's ace struck out six and walked none. He also gave up a pair of home runs, marking the first outing he's surrendered more than one since mid-May. Shields is 4-7 despite a 3.24 ERA, an indictment of his offense, not his performance during his maiden voyage in Kansas City.
