Shields (0-2) allowed eight runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over 1.2 innings to take the loss Saturday at the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Shields couldn't have been much worse, as he allowed 10 baserunners while only retiring five batters. He's now allowed 21 earned runs in his 8.2 innings of work with the White Sox to give him a ridiculous 21.81 ERA. He'll make his next start Thursday at the Red Sox.

Shields allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in five innings Monday, but he did not factor into the decision against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
He now has a 16.71 ERA and 3.29 WHIP through the first seven innings of his White Sox career. Ouch. If a silver lining is to be had, it can be seen in the fact that Shields did not allow a run over his final two innings of work Monday. The Sox are going to give him a fairly long leash after trading for him last week, so expect to see him out there Sunday against the Indians.

Shields (2-8) was bombed for seven runs on eight hits and two walks in just two innings Wednesday against Washington, taking the loss in his White Sox debut.
EDGE Analysis
Since he was annihilated in his final start as a Padre, Shields now owns a simply disgraceful pitching line of 17 runs -- all earned -- on 16 hits in his last 4.2 innings. Over that span, averaging more than a walk (six) and a homer (five) per inning. If White Sox fans thought Jeff Samardzija was a disaster for their club in 2015, they're really in for an unpleasant surprise with Shields, whose stuff is not going to play well in homer-friendly U.S. Cellular Field.

Shields will make his White Sox debut Wednesday against the Nationals, Phil Rogers of the MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox will clear a rotation spot for Shields, who was acquired from the Padres on Saturday, by sending Miguel Gonzalez to the bullpen. Shields profiles as a No. 3 option in the White Sox rotation behind Chris Sale and Jose Quintana, but he'll need to show a little more productivity before gaining much relevance in shallower fantasy leagues. The 34-year-old owned a 4.28 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 67.1 innings with the Padres prior to getting traded.

Shields has been traded to the White Sox in a deal that sends Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis Jr. to the Padres, CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 34-year-old righty profiles as an innings eater at this point in his career, as he posted a 3.91 ERA last year and he currently boasts a 4.28 ERA that is supported by a 57:27 K:BB in 67.1 innings through 11 starts in 2016. The Padres were willing to eat a significant chunk of the remaining money on Shields' contract in order to get too unexciting young players back, so that speaks to Shields' lack of value on the open market. It's a downgrade in home ballparks for Shields, but more importantly, the move back to the American League should work against him, as he'll face more quality lineups without getting two or three chances against the opposing pitcher each night. The White Sox also have a notably worse defense than San Diego according to Fangraphs WAR, so there's really no way to paint this move in a favorable light, other than the fact that he could be in line for a few more wins on a more competitive club.

Shields (2-7) only lasted 2.2 innings during Tuesday's loss against Seattle, in which he allowed a whopping 10 runs on eight hits and four walks with one strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
It was Shields' worst start since 2013, and it spiked his ERA to 4.28 in the season. The eight hits and the 10 runs were both season-high marks, and it was also the first time this year he failed to reach the sixth inning. His next scheduled start will come at home Sunday against the Rockies.

Shields went six innings and allowed two runs and five hits while striking out six and walking one.
EDGE Analysis
The 34-year-old righty has struck out at least one batter per inning and walked one in each of his last three starts, so the arrow is pointing up for him despite a 1-1 record over that span. Shields will look to keep it going in his next start against the Mariners on Tuesday.

Shields fell to 2-6 after allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits over 6.2 innings Thursday against the Giants. He struck out seven and walked just one.
EDGE Analysis
Despite the loss, fantasy owners can take significant positives away from this outing -- after all, it's the second straight start in which Shields has struck out more than a batter per inning while issuing only a single walk. That's huge for him, as his walk rate was way too high in the early going. Nonetheless, the veteran righty is still sitting on a 1.33 WHIP -- a clone of last year's disappointing mark -- and that combined with his 4.12 FIP means that his ERA is due for some regression. Of course, that doesn't have to happen if Shields can finally start learning to use Petco Park to his advantage -- bizarrely, he's been much more homer-prone since coming to ostensibly pitcher-friendly San Diego, and he gave up another long ball Thursday.

Shields (2-5) shut out the Brewers over seven innings Thursday, allowing just seven hits and a walk while striking out nine in a 3-0 win.
EDGE Analysis
Hopes were high when Shields came to pitcher-friendly San Diego prior to last season, but he disappointed by posting his worst numbers since 2010, and this season hasn't gotten off to the most auspicious start either. He's got the ERA down to 3.12, but Shields' strikeout rate has suffered and his 1.31 WHIP is a near twin of last season's -- thanks in no small part to a career-worst 3.63 BB/9. Although this was his best start of the year, Shields was also facing a lackluster Brewers offense; it won't always be that easy in a division that includes three strong offenses in the Giants, D-Backs and Rockies.

Shields (1-5) struck out eight against the Mets on Saturday, but he allowed four runs, on five hits, including two home runs, and five walks in a loss.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander was able to induce 18 swing-and-misses, but he still only threw 59 of his 110 pitches for strikes. Shields also tossed up two homers, including one to fellow pitcher Bartolo Colon. With a 3.60 ERA, Shields isn't allowing a ton of runs, but his 1.73 K/BB rate is his worst ever. He's also getting no help from his offense, as the Padres are averaging just 1.14 runs per game when he pitches. The right-hander will try to get things right in his next outing against the Brewers on Thursday.
