Shields (1-5) struck out eight against the Mets on Saturday, but he allowed four runs, on five hits, including two home runs, and five walks in a loss.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander was able to induce 18 swing-and-misses, but he still only threw 59 of his 110 pitches for strikes. Shields also tossed up two homers, including one to fellow pitcher Bartolo Colon. With a 3.60 ERA, Shields isn't allowing a ton of runs, but his 1.73 K/BB rate is his worst ever. He's also getting no help from his offense, as the Padres are averaging just 1.14 runs per game when he pitches. The right-hander will try to get things right in his next outing against the Brewers on Thursday.
