Peavy won't make his scheduled start Tuesday due to a back issue, but hopes to make his next scheduled start Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports.
He said he's had treatment since his back locked up last week and he feels better, but he's not feeling well enough to take the ball yet. It is not clear who will take Peavy's spot in the rotation Tuesday, as the Giants could move Matt Cain up a day, or they could use some combination of Yusmeiro Petit and Ryan Vogelsong in a bullpen game. Either way, consider Peavy questionable for Sunday's game.

Peavy has been working on adding a straight changeup to his arsenal this spring, CSN Bay Area reports.
The 33-year-old Peavy can no longer retire hitters by simply overpowering them, so he has been working on his off-speed pitches to increase the different looks he offers hitter. He already threw a two-seam changeup - which breaks to his right similar to his sinker - but the four-seam changeup is straight, similar to his four-seam fastball. Peavy has seen his K/9 decline every season since 2012, but he seemed to turn a corner when he was traded to the Giants last season, changing his pitching style to match his lowered velocity and it resulted in a 2.17 ERA through 12 starts. It is unlikely that he will have that low of an ERA in 2015, but if he continues to mix speeds and locate, he could be a low-to-mid three ERA pitcher with a 6 K/9.

Peavy re-signed with the Giants on Friday on a two-year, $24 million contract, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
After a rotten start to the season with Boston, Peavy was spectacular after landing in San Francisco in late July, posting a 2.17 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over his 12 regular-season starts with the Giants. Though his strikeout rate plummeted to a career-worst 7.02 K/9 last season, Peavy's ability to limit his walks and play to the favorable dimensions of AT&T Park could allow him to find continued success with the Giants.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Peavy (thumb) will start Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
Peavy attempted to barehand a foul ball in the dugout during last Friday's Game 3, resulting in a bruised right thumb for the 33-year-old. It won't prevent him from pitching in Tuesday, but he may have a relatively short leash, with the Giants hoping to avoid a Game 7.

Peavy will start Game 2 of the World Series against the Royals, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Peavy will follow Madison Bumgarner in the Giants rotation as the team chases it's third World Series title in six seasons. He struggled through his last outing, being chase after just four innings, but allowed just two runs. The veteran will face a Royals team that has won every game this postseason heading into the World Series.

Peavy will start Game 2 of the NLCS against the Cardinals on Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The right-hander allowed just two hits over 5.2 scoreless innings in the Giants' Game 1 victory in the NLDS, and he'll be on eight days' rest when he faces St. Louis on Sunday. Peavy, a 12-year veteran, has made just nine starts against St. Louis in his career, the last of which came back in 2012.

Peavy will start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Nationals on Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Peavy was included on the team's Wild Card roster as insurance in case Madison Bumgarner was driven from the game early, but Bumgarner tossed a shutout and thus afforded Peavy the opportunity to oppose Nats ace Stephen Strasburg in the opener of the NLDS. The 33-year-old Peavy was outstanding in 12 starts after coming over from Boston, posting a 2.17 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 78.2 innings.

Peavy went five innings Saturday, giving up one run on four hits while walking three and striking out three in the win over the Padres.
Peavy pitched well in his final start of the regular season, but he didn't last long enough to factor into the decision. After a rough start with the Red Sox (1-9, 4.72 ERA), the veteran right-hander has been revitalized after being acquired by the Giants at the trade deadline (6-4, 2.17 ERA). Peavy's season is a classic example of what going from a hitter's park in the American League to a pitcher's park in the National League can do for a pitcher's statistics. The Giants are hoping this wasn't his last start for them this year, but either way, there is a good chance Peavy extends his player option to rejoin the club in 2015.

Peavy continues to be nails for the Giants down the stretch. The veteran is 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA in four September starts. Peavy will face his former Padres club in his final outing of the regular season Saturday.

Peavy was dazzling again Tuesday night, allowing just one run on five hits, walking one, and striking out four over 7.2 innings of a 2-1 win against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
After a disastrous start to the season where he went 1-9 with the Red Sox, Peavy (7-13, 3.82 ERA) has turned it around in a big way in San Francisco. He hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last seven starts - six of which resulted in wins - and he will look to keep it going when he faces the Dodgers in Chavez Ravine next time out in what figures to be a game with serious playoff implications.
