Irvin (2-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies after allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin struggled in a tough matchup in Philadelphia, yielding a season-high eight knocks and six earned runs. The right-hander also tied season worsts with three walks and two punchouts, posting just five whiffs Wednesday. However, Irvin still managed to toss at least six innings in his fifth straight outing, so he'll look to continue providing length for the Nationals in his next scheduled appearance versus the Guardians. He owns a respectable 4.01 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 33:11 K:BB across 42.2 innings in 2025.

Irvin did not factor into the decision Friday against the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over 7.1 innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin held the Mets off the board through seven innings before the Nats' bullpen allowed an inherited run to score in the eighth. The 28-year-old Irvin has been stellar in his last three outings, allowing just three runs on 11 hits across 20.2 innings in that span. His ERA is down to 3.19 through six starts (36.2 innings) this year with a 1.01 WHIP and 31:8 K:BB. Irvin will look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week in Philadelphia.

Irvin (2-0) allowed two runs on three hits over 6.1 innings during Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader in Colorado. He struck out nine and earned the win.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin was dominant outside of the solo home runs he coughed up to Zac Veen and Braxton Fulford in the third and sixth innings, respectively. The nine punchouts were Irvin's best total since June 23, 2024. He threw 55 of 83 pitches for strikes and forced 14 whiffs, including nine with the curveball. Irvin has posted a 15:1 K:BB while yielding two runs over 13.1 innings in his last two outings. He's lined up to face the Mets at home next weekend.

Irvin (1-0) yielded three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings Tuesday, striking out six and picking up a win over Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin allowed only one runner to reach scoring position in the dominant outing. He threw 58 of 87 pitches for strikes and forced 10 whiffs. It was both his longest outing and his first quality start of 2025. Irvin dropped his season ERA to 3.91 with an 18:7 K:BB through 23 frames. His next start is projected to be in Colorado this weekend.

Irvin didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Dodgers after allowing four runs on four hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Although he was ambushed for four runs in the first inning before recording a single out, Irvin salvaged his outing by yielding a lone hit over five scoreless frames the rest of the way. The 28-year-old right-hander does carry a poor 5.63 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB over 16 innings, but it's worth noting his three starts have come against the potent offenses of Philadelphia, Arizona and Los Angeles, respectively. Irvin is tentatively set to face the Pirates on the road early next week, which is a much more favorable draw.

Irvin didn't factor into the decision Friday against Arizona after allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Just as Brandon Pfaadt did for the Diamondbacks, Irvin struggled a bit to keep the ball in the yard Friday. Corbin Carroll got to Irvin for a two-run homer in the third inning, tagging the right-hander for another two-run shot in the fifth frame. Irvin now holds a 5.40 ERA and 1.70 WHIP with five punchouts over 10 innings to begin the campaign, and he won't be a recommended streamer in fantasy leagues in his next scheduled start against the Dodgers in the middle of next week.

Irvin didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's loss versus the Phillies. He allowed two runs, seven hits and two walks over five innings, striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin was a workhorse last year in Washington with 187.2 innings pitched, but he lasted just five innings in his first start of the season. He was lifted at 83 pitches, but he should be able to go longer as he continues to build up his pitch count. He held the Phillies scoreless through three innings before giving up a two-run homer to Bryson Stott in the fourth inning. The righty left the game in a 2-2 tie before the Washington bullpen surrendered nine runs over the final four frames. He will look for his first win of the season in an expected start next week against the Diamondbacks.

Irvin averaged 91.4 mph with his fastball during Wednesday's Grapefruit League start against the Cardinals, down significantly from the 93.8 mph he averaged in 2024, but he said after the game he felt fine, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Nationals allowed the right-hander to build up to 91 pitches (64 strikes), so even though the results weren't pretty -- six runs allowed on 10 hits, including two home runs, over 5.2 innings -- the team would seem to share Irvin's confidence in his fitness. "No, we would've definitely taken him out [if we thought he was dealing with a health issue]," manager Dave Martinez said after the game. "But he said he felt great. He said nothing to worry about. He's tinkering. One, he's throwing the slider, he's throwing the cutter, so his fastball was just a little off." Irvin had been pitching fairly well this spring prior to the blowup, and he still has a 3.86 ERA through 16.1 innings after Wednesday, albeit with a lackluster 9:8 K:BB. He's expected to get one more turn during the exhibition schedule before starting the second game of the season for the Nats on March 29 against the Phillies.

Irvin gave up six runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks over 3.1 innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Some shaky defense behind the right-hander got Irvin off the hook for some earned runs during a six-run first inning by New York, but most of the damage came on homers by Mark Vientos and Jakson Reetz. Irvin was still able to build up to 81 pitches (48 strikes), and the 28-year-old remains on track to begin the season in the Nationals' rotation despite his disconcerting 5:6 K:BB through 10.2 spring innings.

Irvin tossed a perfect inning in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old right-hander needed only eight pitches to breeze through his first game action of the spring. Per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, one of those eight pitches was a slider, an offering Irvin is trying to add to his arsenal in an effort to get more whiffs. "I struggled a lot with getting in-zone swing and miss last year," Irvin said after Saturday's outing. "[The slider] is something that will kind of balance out the really slower curveball and the harder fastball. And then my cutter and changeup are both a little harder, too. I wanted something that's in that middle ground there." Irvin posted a 4.41 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 156:52 K:BB over a career-high 187.2 innings in 2024.
