Irvin (1-0) notched the win Sunday against the Cubs, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
It was an impressive season debut overall for Irvin, who posted 14 whiffs en route to fanning seven. The right-hander tossed 93 pitches as well, so he appears to be just about fully built up already on the young campaign. That said, Irvin was tagged for a pair of home runs Sunday, and he's unlikely to make for a recommended fantasy streamer in his next scheduled outing against the Dodgers despite his strong first appearance.

Irvin appears to be on track to begin the season as part of the Nationals' rotation, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Josiah Gray and Mitchell Parker were optioned to Triple-A Rochester this week while Brad Lord is being shifted to the bullpen, which seemingly leaves Irvin as the last man standing for the fifth starter role. Irvin's reliability may have won the day, as he's made 33 starts in each of the last two seasons despite a 5.04 ERA, and the 29-year-old right-hander has had a strong spring with a 1.35 ERA and 15:4 K:BB over 13.1 innings.

Irvin allowed three hits and a walk over five scoreless innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander appears to be on the outside looking in for a spot in the Nationals' rotation, but Irvin isn't going down without a fight. He tossed 42 of 66 pitches for strikes against a young St. Louis lineup that featured top prospect JJ Wetherholt as well as Alec Burleson and Jordan Walker, lowering his spring ERA to 1.35 with a 15:4 K:BB over 13.1 innings. Irvin still has minor-league options remaining, so despite his strong camp he's likely to begin the year with Triple-A Rochester after Washington added Zack Littell, Miles Mikolas and Foster Griffin to the rotation mix this offseason.

Irvin allowed one hit and two walks over two scoreless innings in the Nationals' Grapefruit League game against the Phillies on Monday. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old right-hander is one of only two pitchers to make 33 starts each of the last two years, with the other being Giants ace Logan Webb, but the 2025 results for the two couldn't have been more different. Irvin's 5.70 ERA and 38 homers allowed over 180 innings were the worst marks in the majors among qualifying pitchers, and his 1.43 WHIP and 15.8 percent strikeout rate were both significantly worse than the season before as well. With the Nationals having signed Miles Mikolas and Foster Griffin this offseason to bolster their rotation, and Josiah Gray expected back from Tommy John surgery, Irvin may need a strong spring training performance to hang onto his spot.

The Nationals and Irvin avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.8 million contract Thursday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin finished the 2025 campaign with a 5.70 ERA while serving up a major-league high 38 home runs. The right-hander's durability has been his biggest asset to this point, as he's made 33 starts in consecutive seasons. Irvin does not appear locked into a rotation spot in 2026, though his chances of nabbing one would increase if the Nationals trade MacKenzie Gore.

Irvin allowed four runs on six hits and a walk across six innings in a no-decision Saturday versus the White Sox. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
All of the damage against Irvin came via a pair of two-run home runs in the fourth inning -- Irvin's given up 38 homers this season, the most in the majors. After going 7-5 with a 4.58 ERA in the first half of the season, Irvin went just 2-8 while struggling to a 7.73 ERA across 13 starts (64 innings) following the All-Star break. Overall, he'll finish the year with a 5.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 124 strikeouts across 33 starts (180 innings).

Irvin (9-13) earned the win against the Mets on Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin entered Sunday's game having lost eight of his last nine starts with a 9.00 ERA and 1.86 WHIP across 42 innings. He was supplied with a three-run lead early and was working on his first quality start since July 27 against the Twins before being pulled in the sixth inning. Irvin is slated to start next weekend at home against the White Sox, when he'll look to capture his 10th win of the season.

Irvin (8-13) took the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Atlanta, coughing up five runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
All five runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning as the right-hander blew an early 2-0 lead, with the bad frame including homers off the bats of Jurickson Profar and Matt Olson. Irvin hasn't won a game since late July, dropping eight straight decisions while posting a horrific 9.00 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 27:18 K:BB over his last nine starts and 42 innings. He's likely to make one more trip to the mound before mercifully putting his 2025 season to bed, lining up for a rematch against Atlanta on the road early next week.

Irvin (8-12) took the loss against the Marlins on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was incredible early, retiring 15 of the first 17 batters he faced while cruising through five scoreless frames. However, Irvin's outing fell apart in the sixth after a fielding error put Maximo Acosta on base, sparking a rally that included three hits before he was lifted with two runners aboard -- both would also come around to score. The tough-luck inning extended Irvin's skid to seven losses over his last eight outings, including five straight defeats, as he continues to search for a turnaround.

Irvin (8-11) took the loss against the Cubs on Friday, allowing seven runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin was tagged for five runs in the first inning and has now allowed multiple homers in four of his past six starts. The 28-year-old is winless over his last seven outings, a stretch that includes five games of at least four earned runs and no quality starts. He'll carry a 5.71 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 104:57 K:BB across 157.2 innings into a road matchup with the Marlins next week.
