Irvin (2-5) picked up the win Saturday, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings in an 8-3 victory over the Rangers. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was far from dominant, but Washington's offense handed Irvin an 8-0 lead before Texas finally got on the board in the fourth inning. It's the 26-year-old rookie's first win in two months, but he's been giving the Nats reliable innings lately, posting a 3.69 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over six starts since the beginning of June despite a mediocre 19:11 K:BB through 31.2 frames. Irvin may face some workload concerns in the second half -- he's thrown 81 innings already in 2023 between Triple-A and the majors but tossed only 103.1 innings in the minors last year -- but he appears to be firming up his grip on a rotation spot.

Irvin (1-5) yielded three runs on six hits and a walk over six innings Monday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Most of the damage against Irvin came in the fourth inning on Joey Votto's two-run shot. After posting a 5.67 ERA through his first six outings, Irvin owns a 3.71 ERA since the start of June. However, he's lost five straight decisions since his last win May 8. Irvin will carry a 4.70 ERA into his next outing, which is projected to be at home against the Rangers this weekend.

Irvin allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take a no-decision Tuesday versus the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin started off shaky, as Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-run home in the first inning. After that, Irvin settled down and came up an out short of a quality start. The right-hander's winless stretch is up to eight starts, and he's still sitting on a mediocre 4.72 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 37:25 K:BB through 47.2 innings across 10 starts this season. Irvin is projected for a challenging home start versus the Reds next week.

Irvin (1-4) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Diamondbacks after he gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin threw 61 of his 87 pitches for strikes and didn't allow any extra-base hits, but Arizona still scratched across single tallies in the first and fourth innings. The right-hander has a 4.71 ERA and 1.52 WHIP through nine starts this year, though he's been better in his past two outings with just two earned runs allowed.

Irvin didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Marlins, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander hadn't pitched since June 6 in order to work on some mechanical adjustments, and the tweaks paid immediate dividends as Irvin put together his best performance since he delivered a quality start against the Giants on May 8. He still wasn't particularly efficient however, throwing 88 pitches (55 strikes) before exiting with the score tied 1-1. Irvin's 5.25 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 27:22 K:BB through his first 36 big-league innings remain unimpressive, but the rebuilding Nationals don't have any better options for their rotation. He'll try to take another step forward in his next outing, likely to come at home next week against the Diamondbacks.

Irvin won't start Tuesday's series opener in Houston and will instead have his next turn in the rotation skipped, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Washington will take advantage of Monday's off day to move up at least three of their other four starters while pushing Irvin to the back of the schedule. Patrick Corbin, Josiah Gray and MacKenzie Gore will all pick up starts in Houston, leaving Irvin's next start to come either Friday or Saturday versus the Marlins in Washington. According to Andrew Golden of The Washington Post, manager Dave Martinez said that pushing Irvin's next start back will allow the rookie right-hander to make some mechanical adjustments in bullpen sessions.

Irvin did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over four innings against Arizona. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
After bursting onto the scene with one run allowed across his first two starts (10.2 innings), Irvin has slowed up considerably, piling up three losses with an 8.85 ERA and a 15:13 K/BB over 20.1 innings (five starts) since. Though he has matched up against some powerful offenses in the Mets, Padres and Dodgers over that five start stretch, Irvin hasn't shown much to give managers hope for a turnaround. He is lined up for another tough start on the road against Atlanta this weekend.

Irvin (1-3) took the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Irvin contained his struggles to the second and third innings, but the damage was too much for the Nationals to overcome. He's lost three of his last four outings, and this was just the second time in six starts Irvin's been able to finish five frames. He's at a 5.67 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 22:17 K:BB through 27 innings. With a 5.7 BB/9 and four home runs surrendered in his last three appearances, there's not much to like with the right-hander. He's projected for a home start versus the Diamondbacks in his next outing.

Irvin did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks over 4 innings against San Diego. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
It's a step in the right direction for Irvin after he allowed 10 runs in 7.1 innings over his previous two outings. Still, the rookie right-hander only made it through four innings after throwing 76 pitches. Irvin is 1-2 with a 5.32 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 19:16 K:BB through his first five major-league starts (22 innings).

Irvin (1-2) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks over 2.2 innings as the Nationals were downed 8-6 by the Tigers. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
It was a brutal outing for the rookie right-hander, who served up two homers to a light-hitting Detroit lineup that wound up going yard four times in total on the night. Irvin now carries a 5.50 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB through 18 innings over his first four big-league starts, but the Nats don't have any clearly better rotation options in the minors. If he gets another turn, it will likely come at home next week against the Padres.
