Jacob Turner is scheduled to be recalled to start for Detroit on Thursday. He'll face the Royals at home and might be worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues. With rosters expanding on Thursday, Detroit will take the opportunity to give Justin Verlander an extra day's rest. The 20-year-old was promising in his major league debut late last month, giving up two runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Angels. It's unclear how many more innings the Tigers will allow him to pitch before they shut him down for the season.

Jacob Turner took the loss in his major league debut Saturday, giving up two runs over 5 1/3 innings innings against the Angels. Hard to complain about this one. Turner allowed three hits and three walks while striking out six. He threw 57 out of 96 pitches for strikes before getting pulled in the sixth. This was a nice sneak preview for Tigers fans and fantasy owners, but he's expected to head back to the minors following the acquisition of Doug Fister.

Tigers recalled RHP Jacob Turner from Double-A Erie. The Tigers' top prospect will make his major league debut Saturday against the Angels. It will be a one-shot appearance, as he'll then clear room for the newly acquired Doug Fister. Turner boasts a 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 90/32 K/BB ratio over 113 2/3 innings for Double-A Erie this season.

CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that top prospect Jacob Turner will start for the Tigers Saturday against the Angels. That's what we figured. It was revealed late Friday night that Turner would be promoted, and him taking Duane Below's spot in the rotation was the logical move. The top prospect holds a 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 90/32 K/BB ratio over 113 2/3 innings for Double-A Erie this season. With the Tigers reportedly close to landing Doug Fister, Turner is expected to be around for only one start. But, with Brad Penny and Rick Porcello underperforming, we wouldn't rule out him getting more chances down the line.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Tigers will call up top pitching prospect Jacob Turner. Interesting. We thought they might give Turner the call if they didn't land the starter they wanted at the deadline, so perhaps it's a sign that trade talks aren't going well. Heyman did add, though, that the Tigers are "active on other fronts, as well," so it sounds like they're likely to add two new members to their rotation. Turner, 20, holds a 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 90/32 K/BB ratio over 113 2/3 innings for Double-A Erie. Though we're bullish on his long-term potential, we're not incredibly confident he'll have success right away.

Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said that while top prospect Jacob Turner is "very close to pitching in the big leagues," he considers it "unlikely" the righty will be promoted this season. Dombrowski cited a desire to limit Turner's innings as a big reason why he's likely to remain on the farm all year. Turner has posted a 3.49 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 82/31 K/BB ratio over 105 2/3 innings this season. "We love him," Dombrowski said. "We think he's going to be a No. 1 starter. He's very close to pitching in the big leagues. I'm not sure how much more time he needs in the minors, except that he's also pitched a lot of innings this year compared to where he's been in the past. We always have concerns about that. The innings pitched becomes an important factor."

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said talk of calling up pitching prospect Jacob Turner sometime in the next month would be "long-shot speculation." It's not exactly a denial that Turner could be an option at some point later this season, but the Tigers are focused on adding a pitcher from outside the organization and need to keep the 20-year-old in the minors for seasoning. Turner has posted a 3.49 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 79/29 K/BB ratio over 100 2/3 innings for Double-A Erie.
