Garrett Richards will replace Jered Weaver (elbow) in the Angels' starting rotation. It's a tall task to replace Weaver, but Richards has more upside than Jerome Williams. The 24-year-old right-hander posted a 4.69 ERA and 47/34 K/BB ratio in 71 innings over nine starts and 21 relief appearances last season. His strikeout rate hasn't translated to the majors quite yet, but he's worth a look in AL-only formats.

Garrett Richards hurled 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in Saturday's 5-1 victory over the Brewers. Richards struck out five and issued just one walk. He has a 1.88 ERA in four outings this spring and should get a look in the Angels' rotation at some point in 2013.

Garrett Richards left his start with Triple-A Salt Lake Monday after three innings due to left knee soreness. Richards tweaked the knee when running to cover first base. He was feeling better after the game, but tests will be performed before an official diagnosis is provided. "When a pitcher has to come out of game, obviously there's a concern, but we'll wait until we get some more information to see exactly what's going on," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Garrett Richards was less than impressive in Tuesday's loss to the Royals, allowing four runs over five innings while striking out just two. He allowed five and walked three. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 3.91 ERA in 48 1/3 innings at the major league level this season. His peripherals tell a different story, however. Richards has posted a 32/26 K/BB ratio and 1.55 WHIP while serving up six long balls. Mixed leaguers need not sign up.

The Angels confirmed Garrett Richards will start Tuesday against the Royals. It's no surprise, as Richards dominated the Tigers in his previous start and offers more upside than the less-talented Jerome Williams. With Dan Haren (lower back) set to return from the disabled list Sunday, Williams will be moved to the bullpen. C.J. Wilson will start Monday on regular rest.

Garrett Richards was impressive in Tuesday's victory over the Tigers, allowing just three hits and four walks over seven scoreless innings while striking out two. While he struggled with his command at times, Richards was able to keep the Detroit hitters off balance and executed critical pitches when he needed to. Given Jerome Williams' recent struggles, perhaps Anaheim would be better served keeping Richards in the rotation when Dan Haren returns from the disabled list at the end of this week.

Angels recalled RHP Garrett Richards from Triple-A Salt Lake. Richards is being called up to start Tuesday against the Tigers. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 4.21 ERA and 28/19 K/BB ratio in 36 1/3 innings at the major league level this season. With Dan Haren (back) scheduled to return from the disabled list this weekend, Richards' latest stint in the majors could be a brief one.

The Angels will recall Garrett Richards to start Tuesday against the Tigers. Brad Mills was optioned Friday, so that was the presumption. Richards pitched well in a spot start before the All-Star break, and offers more upside than any of the Angels' other current options. His rotation spot will be in danger when Dan Haren (back) returns from the disabled list.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia is undecided on whether Garrett Richards or Brad Mills will start Tuesday against the Tigers. Richards offers more upside, but Mills pitched very well in a spot start just before the All-Star break. Tuesday might be the last time they need them, anyway, as Dan Haren (back) is progressing and should rejoin the rotation soon.

Angels optioned RHP Garrett Richards to Triple-A Salt Lake. Richards has been knocked around for two straight starts, but he's only being sent down because he can be brought back in time for his first turn after the All-Star break. His rotation spot might be in danger when Dan Haren (back) returns, though.
