Angels assistant general manager Scott Servais singled out Garrett Richards as a player the Angels could make room for on the 25-man roster. "I think we've got some higher-end guys at the upper levels that could end up making the club or creating depth for us at Triple-A," Servais said. ''We will be very aggressive trying to move them up level to level.'' Richards has a chance to make the Angels' pitching staff out of spring training, but could be stashed at Triple-A to ''round out the final portion of his minor league resume.'' A first round pick in 2009, Richards went 12-2 with a 3.15 ERA in Double-A Arkansas last season before making his August debut in the majors.

Garrett Richards held the Rangers to one run on two hits and three walks in five innings Wednesday, taking a no-decision in an Angels loss. Richards struck out one. His only real mistake of the night came in the second, where he surrendered a solo home run to Mike Napoli. Richards will end his first big league cup of coffee the owner of a 5.79 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 9/7 K/BB ratio in 14 innings. He's unlikely to begin 2012 as a member of the Angels rotation.

Garrett Richards (groin) is slated to make a minor league rehab start with Double-A Arkansas this weekend. Richards hasn't pitched since August 15 due to a right groin strain. The rookie right-hander may rejoin the Angels' roster at some point this month, though it's not clear if he'll pitch as a starter or reliever.

Garrett Richards (groin) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session this weekend. Richards has been out since mid-August with a strained right groin. Assuming he doesn't have any setbacks, it seems likely that he could be ready to rejoin the Angels shortly after the rosters expand. He's no guarantee to slide back into the rotation, though.

Angels placed RHP Garrett Richards on the 15-day disabled list with a right adductor strain. Tough break for the rookie right-hander. Richards, who was knocked around for six runs over five innings by the Yankees in his major league debut last week, was forced to leave Monday's start against the Rangers in the top of the first inning. The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but Joel Pineiro will rejoin the rotation this weekend.

Angels purchased the contract of RHP Garrett Richards from Double-A Arkansas. As expected, Richards will make his major league debut Wednesday night against the Yankees. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 3.10 ERA over parts of three seasons in the minor leagues, averaging 7.9 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9. The Angels are trying to hang around in the playoff race, so they will likely have little patience if he struggles. Still, he is worth monitoring in AL-only formats.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia confirmed that prospect right-hander Garrett Richards will be promoted to start Wednesday against the Yankees. The Angels considered moving Hisanori Takahashi from the bullpen, but they ultimately decided to roll the dice with the rookie right-hander. Richards, 23, will make the jump from Double-A Arkansas, where he has a 3.06 ERA and 100/40 K/BB ratio over 141 innings this season. It's tough to recommend a pitcher in their major league debut, let alone against the Yankees, but he is someone to monitor in AL-only leagues.

According to Keith Law of ESPN.com, the Angels are making plans to promote Garrett Richards. Richards, 23, has registered a 3.06 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 100/40 K/BB ratio in 141 innings this season at the Double-A level. Control has been an issue, but he boasts a powerful arsenal and might be able to make a smooth transition to the majors if he's able to keep the ball over the plate. Richards will presumably take Joel Pineiro's place in the Anaheim rotation.

Angels pitching prospect Garrett Richards is under consideration to be promoted to take Joel Pineiro's spot in the rotation. A 2009 sandwich round pick, Richards has posted a 3.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 100/40 K/BB ratio over 141 innings this season for Double-A Arkansas. The right-hander pitched on Thursday, so he would be ready to pitch Wednesday, when the Angels next need a starter, on one extra day of rest. Also under consideration are relievers Hisanori Takahashi and Horacio Ramirez, as well as Triple-A right-handers Trevor Bell, Jerome Williams and Eric Junge.
