Garrett Richards surrendered seven runs in 4 1/3 innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Orioles. Baltimore's pitching was even worse, so Richards didn't take a loss. This makes back-to-back dreadful outings for him, though. If not for Dan Haren's injury, he'd probably be in line to be replaced next week. As is, the Angels still might send him down, but he could still be the fifth starter after the break.

Garrett Richards was tagged for 10 runs (five earned) over 4 1/3 innings in Saturday's loss to the Blue Jays. Richards gave up nine hits, including a two-run homer to Yunel Escobar in a seven-run second inning. He walked four and struck out three while throwing 55 out of 97 pitches for strikes. His ERA jumped from 1.63 to 2.81 in the loss. He'll remain in the rotation for now, but his spot could become vulnerable when Jerome Williams is ready to return from the disabled list.

Garrett Richards allowed three runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings Sunday, taking a no-decision in the Angels' 5-3 win over the Dodgers. He struck out five and walked two. The quality start was Richards' third in four outings since joining the Halos rotation, and leaves him with a 1.63 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 22/13 K/BB ratio through 27 2/3 frames. He'll get the Blue Jays in Toronto next weekend.

Garrett Richards allowed two runs -- one earned -- in five innings Monday in a no-decision against the Dodgers. It's Richards own fault he didn't win tonight: he committed an error that helped create the unearned run in the first and he was picked off first base in front of Mike Trout's homer in the fourth. Richards also walked five tonight and didn't stick around all that long as a result. He has been effective in both of his starts for the Angels so far, but he's not worth grabbing in mixed leagues.

Garrett Richards won his first game of 2012 by spinning seven innings of one-run ball against the Mariners on Tuesday. He struck out eight, walked two and gave up just four hits. One of those hits -- a solo homer by Michael Saunders in the sixth -- proved to be the only damage against the youngster. Called up in late May, Richards had made just one relief appearance for the Angels prior to Tuesday's start. Richards is a hard-thrower with some upside, but command has always been an issue. It may not crop up against Seattle's lineup, but it will against good-hitting teams. At the moment, he's no better than an AL-only pickup.

Angels option RHP Garret Richards to Triple-A Salt Lake. The Halos don't need a fifth starter until April 15, so they'll free up a spot on their 25-man roster by placing Richards in the minors to open the year. Jerome Williams is also under consideration for that No. 5 spot but has been limited this spring by a hamstring strain.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said the Angels will not use a No. 5 stater until one is needed on April 15. Garrett Richards looks to be the favorite for the final rotation spot at this point, but Jerome Williams (hamstring) should be healthy by April 15, so it's unclear at this point what the Halos will do. Richards certainly holds more fantasy appeal, but he might not be ready.

Garrett Richards allowed two runs on six hits Wednesday in a five-inning minor league start. "I took good things away from today," Richards told reporters after the 76-pitch outing. "I'm trying to show them I have been working hard ... showing them the stuff they might have questions about." The 23-year-old right-hander is expected to open the season as the Angels' No. 5 starter, but Jerome Williams (hamstring) will be breathing down his neck once he returns to full health.

Garrett Richards mowed down the Indians in Friday's 7-0 win, fanning six while allowing just three hits in four scoreless innings of work. Trying to earn a spot at the back of the Angels' rotation, Richards is now the owner of a tidy 2.00 ERA and 7/0 K/BB ratio through his first nine spring innings of work. He's worth keeping an eye on in AL-only leagues.

Garrett Richards wasn't too sharp in his spring debut Tuesday, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk over two innings of work against the White Sox. He struck out one. Richards really struggled in his brief time with the Angels last season, holding a 5.79 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, but he boasted a 3.15 ERA in his time at Double-A. The former supplemental round pick is competing for a spot at the end of the Halos rotation but could probably use some more seasoning.
