Lauer (forearm) tossed 3.1 scoreless frames and scattered two hits and three walks while striking out three Friday in his rehab start for Triple-A El Paso.
EDGE Analysis
It was the second rehab appearance for the southpaw, who tossed 61 pitches (34 strikes) in the outing. He'll likely need to build up to the 75-to-90-pitch range before the Padres are comfortable adding him back to the rotation, so expect Lauer to make at least one more start in the minors. He appears in line to return from the 10-day disabled list in early September.

Lauer (forearm) is scheduled to being a minor-league stint with High-A Lake Elsinore on Saturday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer landed on the shelf July 31 due to a left forearm strain, and he'll return to game action over the weekend. An exact timetable for his return is unclear, but more news on his status should emerge following his first rehab outing.

Lauer (forearm) played catch Tuesday and said he felt good afterward, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer has been on the 10-day disabled list since July 31 with a left forearm strain, but doesn't look on track to miss much more than the minimum amount of time. He's expected to resume facing hitters within a couple of days and could return from the DL without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand. Acee relays that Lauer could be activated at some point during the Padres' weekend series with the Phillies, though the reports that pitching prospect Jacob Nix is slated to join the big club suggest San Diego may be inclined to wait until next week to usher the lefty back into the rotation.

Lauer's forearm strain appears to be a minor one, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forearm strains often lead to more significant injures, but Lauer appears to have dodged a bullet this time. Both the pitcher and his manager Andy Green expect him to be able to return sometime in August.

Lauer was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a forearm strain.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer had been poor over his last three starts, allowing 14 runs on 18 hits and six walks in just 11 innings. Those struggles may have been related to the injury. Forearm strains are sometimes the initial diagnosis which precedes a more serious injury, though there hasn't yet been a suggestion that this particular case is cause for additional concern. Walker Lockett was promoted in a corresponding move.

Lauer (5-7) gave up six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings and taking the loss against the Mets on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer gave up three runs in the opening frame, and was never able to rebound before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the top of the fifth. The southpaw threw 51 of his 85 pitches for strikes, but he only managed 10 first-pitch strikes to the 21 batters he faced. The 23-year-old has now given up 11 earned runs over his last two starts (six innings), a far cry from the 2.33 ERA he posted over his previous eight outings. Lauer's recent struggles make him a risky fantasy play for his next scheduled start Monday, even in a favorable home matchup against the offensively-challenged Giants.

The Padres moved Lauer's start back to Tuesday after recalling Joey Lucchesi for Monday's game against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer started 16 games for the Padres during the first half of the 2018 campaign, logging a 4.87 ERA and 1.67 WHIP with a 67:32 K:BB across 77.2 innings. This move likely takes Lauer out of the running for a pair of starts this week as his next projected appearance after facing New York comes Monday versus the Giants.

Lauer (5-6) allowed five earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three across two innings to take the loss Sunday against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer allowed four of the first six batters he faced to reach base, with three runs scoring in the process. Things didn't improve much from there, which caused him to get a quick hook after just two innings pitched and 56 pitches. Prior to this start, he had put together eight consecutive outings in which he had given up three earned runs or fewer. While that's enough for him to be considered an option in deeper leagues, he also has allowed four or more earned runs in five of 16 starts this season.

Lauer (3-5) took the loss against the Pirates on Friday, giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits over five innings, striking out three and walking none in San Diego's 6-3 defeat.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer wasn't at his sharpest in this outing, but his final line was salvaged by virtue of three of the six runs he yielded being unearned. This actually marked the sixth straight start for Lauer where he's given up three earned runs or less, so he's been performing respectably lately. However, he still has a 5.08 ERA and he doesn't post high strikeout totals -- both things that have limited his overall fantasy value this season.

Lauer allowed one unearned run on three hits in a no-decision against the A's on Tuesday, striking out seven and walking two in six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer allowed no extra-base hits en route to his third quality start of the year. The seven strikeouts match a season-high for Lauer and he now holds a 47:26 K:BB in 51 innings. The lefty still maintains an undesirable 5.47 ERA and .324 batting average against, but he has shown glimpses of effectiveness in between the rough outings. As starter Joey Lucchesi is set to return to the rotation, it's uncertain as of yet how the Padres will handle Lauer going forward.
