Lauer will start for the Padres on Opening Day.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer will get the ball first for the Padres after dominating through three spring appearances (0.50 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB in 10 scoreless innings). The southpaw, who compiled a 4.34 ERA and 8.0 K/9 in 23 starts (112 innings) as a rookie in 2018, will be followed in the rotation by Joey Lucchesi.

Lauer is a candidate to receive the start for the Padres' Opening Day game March 28 versus the Giants, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer has been dominant through his first two Cactus League starts, striking out eight while covering six no-hit innings. That's probably enough for him to secure his place in a low-grade Padres rotation to begin the season, and he could line up for Opening Day depending on how the Padres arrange their pitching schedule for their final three games in Arizona this weekend. After an off-day Thursday, Lauer and Joey Lucchesi are in line to start either Friday against the Rockies or Saturday versus the Angels. If Lauer gets the Saturday nod, it would put him on schedule to take the hill for the opener on his typical four days' rest.

Lauer didn't factor into the decision against the Diamondbacks on Friday, despite giving up just one earned run on seven hits over 6.1 innings, striking out six and walking one as San Diego eventually prevailed 3-2 in extra innings.
EDGE Analysis
It was an excellent outing for the left-hander but he wasn't able to nab his seventh victory of the season in a low-scoring contest that it took the teams 15 innings to decide. Lauer has been on a nice run of late, as this was his fifth straight appearance where he's given up two or fewer earned runs. However, his numbers on the season remain unremarkable, with a 4.42 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP and a 100:46 K:BB over 112 innings.

Lauer (forearm) was activated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his scheduled start Thursday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer is set to rejoin the big-league rotation after spending a little less than a month on the shelf with a forearm strain. The southpaw completed a pair of minor-league rehab starts before being cleared to return, striking out seven over 6.1 scoreless frames in those outings. He'll take the rotation spot of Clayton Richard (knee), while Colten Brewer was optioned to the minors to free up a roster spot for Lauer. The 23-year-old posted a 5.30 ERA across 18 starts prior to landing on the DL.

Lauer (forearm) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list to start Thursday's game against the Rockies, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer, who has completed two rehab starts since being shut down in late July with a forearm strain, will assume the rotation spot of Clayton Richard (knee), who is set to undergo season-ending surgery in the near future. The southpaw only tossed 61 pitches in his most recent rehab start Aug. 24, so he may face some slight restrictions in his first outing back with San Diego.

Lauer (forearm) tossed 3.1 scoreless frames and scattered two hits and three walks while striking out three Friday in his rehab start for Triple-A El Paso.
EDGE Analysis
It was the second rehab appearance for the southpaw, who tossed 61 pitches (34 strikes) in the outing. He'll likely need to build up to the 75-to-90-pitch range before the Padres are comfortable adding him back to the rotation, so expect Lauer to make at least one more start in the minors. He appears in line to return from the 10-day disabled list in early September.

Lauer (forearm) is scheduled to being a minor-league stint with High-A Lake Elsinore on Saturday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer landed on the shelf July 31 due to a left forearm strain, and he'll return to game action over the weekend. An exact timetable for his return is unclear, but more news on his status should emerge following his first rehab outing.

Lauer (forearm) played catch Tuesday and said he felt good afterward, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer has been on the 10-day disabled list since July 31 with a left forearm strain, but doesn't look on track to miss much more than the minimum amount of time. He's expected to resume facing hitters within a couple of days and could return from the DL without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand. Acee relays that Lauer could be activated at some point during the Padres' weekend series with the Phillies, though the reports that pitching prospect Jacob Nix is slated to join the big club suggest San Diego may be inclined to wait until next week to usher the lefty back into the rotation.

Lauer's forearm strain appears to be a minor one, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forearm strains often lead to more significant injures, but Lauer appears to have dodged a bullet this time. Both the pitcher and his manager Andy Green expect him to be able to return sometime in August.

Lauer was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a forearm strain.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer had been poor over his last three starts, allowing 14 runs on 18 hits and six walks in just 11 innings. Those struggles may have been related to the injury. Forearm strains are sometimes the initial diagnosis which precedes a more serious injury, though there hasn't yet been a suggestion that this particular case is cause for additional concern. Walker Lockett was promoted in a corresponding move.
