Lauer (2-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks across five innings in a loss to the Reds on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The 23-year-old kept the ball in the yard, which has been an issue for him this year, but the Reds scratched out three runs on their six hits. Lauer has displayed great control this season, but opposing hitters are batting .290 against him, which has led to him posting a 1.41 WHIP. Lauer is also 2-3 with a 4.67 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 27 innings. His next start should be against the Nationals on the road Saturday.

Lauer (2-2) yielded three runs on eight hits in five innings, taking the loss against Arizona on Sunday. He struck out five batters.
EDGE Analysis
After six shutout innings in his 2019 debut, Lauer has given up 12 runs over his last three outings, raising his season ERA to 4.91 in 22 innings. His biggest mistake Sunday was a two-run shot off Ketel Marte's bat in the third inning. Lauer will look to get back in the win column at home against the Reds on Saturday.

Lauer (2-1) picked up the win Monday, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks over six innings while striking out eight in a 6-5 victory over the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
It wasn't pretty on Lauer's end, but a three-homer barrage by the Padres -- capped by Framil Reyes' pinch-hit blast in the top of the seventh -- got him into the win column. The southpaw threw 56 of 90 pitches for strikes and now sports a 4.76 ERA and 13:5 K:BB through 17 innings. Lauer will next take the mound Saturday in Arizona.

Lauer suffered his first loss of 2019, allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one across five innings against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Diamondbacks had baserunners in every inning against Lauer, but it was actually the long ball that did him Tuesday. It was home-run derby at Petco Park, as the Diamondbacks and Padres combined for eight homers. The Diamondbacks smashed five of them, including two against Lauer. The left-hander has given up 13 hits in 11 innings to begin this season, but when he hasn't given up the long ball, he's worked around those hits, posting a 3.27 ERA during his first two outings.

Lauer threw six shutout innings, giving up four hits and striking out three, in a 2-0 victory against the Giants on Opening Day.
EDGE Analysis
The 23-year-old posted a 1.07 ERA in his final five starts of his rookie year last season. Lauer had a great spring as well, and it's great to see him take what he figured out down the stretch of 2018 and apply it to Opening Day. He is expected to build upon his rookie year when he went 6-7 with a 4.34 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 112 innings.

Lauer will start for the Padres on Opening Day.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer will get the ball first for the Padres after dominating through three spring appearances (0.50 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB in 10 scoreless innings). The southpaw, who compiled a 4.34 ERA and 8.0 K/9 in 23 starts (112 innings) as a rookie in 2018, will be followed in the rotation by Joey Lucchesi.

Lauer is a candidate to receive the start for the Padres' Opening Day game March 28 versus the Giants, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer has been dominant through his first two Cactus League starts, striking out eight while covering six no-hit innings. That's probably enough for him to secure his place in a low-grade Padres rotation to begin the season, and he could line up for Opening Day depending on how the Padres arrange their pitching schedule for their final three games in Arizona this weekend. After an off-day Thursday, Lauer and Joey Lucchesi are in line to start either Friday against the Rockies or Saturday versus the Angels. If Lauer gets the Saturday nod, it would put him on schedule to take the hill for the opener on his typical four days' rest.

Lauer didn't factor into the decision against the Diamondbacks on Friday, despite giving up just one earned run on seven hits over 6.1 innings, striking out six and walking one as San Diego eventually prevailed 3-2 in extra innings.
EDGE Analysis
It was an excellent outing for the left-hander but he wasn't able to nab his seventh victory of the season in a low-scoring contest that it took the teams 15 innings to decide. Lauer has been on a nice run of late, as this was his fifth straight appearance where he's given up two or fewer earned runs. However, his numbers on the season remain unremarkable, with a 4.42 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP and a 100:46 K:BB over 112 innings.

Lauer (forearm) was activated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his scheduled start Thursday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer is set to rejoin the big-league rotation after spending a little less than a month on the shelf with a forearm strain. The southpaw completed a pair of minor-league rehab starts before being cleared to return, striking out seven over 6.1 scoreless frames in those outings. He'll take the rotation spot of Clayton Richard (knee), while Colten Brewer was optioned to the minors to free up a roster spot for Lauer. The 23-year-old posted a 5.30 ERA across 18 starts prior to landing on the DL.

Lauer (forearm) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list to start Thursday's game against the Rockies, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lauer, who has completed two rehab starts since being shut down in late July with a forearm strain, will assume the rotation spot of Clayton Richard (knee), who is set to undergo season-ending surgery in the near future. The southpaw only tossed 61 pitches in his most recent rehab start Aug. 24, so he may face some slight restrictions in his first outing back with San Diego.
