Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner said Wednesday that David Robertson will be the team's closer in 2014.
That has been the natural assumption for a while now, but the Yankees have been reluctant to officially name Robertson as Mariano Rivera's successor until now. "We are going to continue to look, but no doubt we have already spent a lot of money this offseason," said Steinbrenner. "I have a lot of confidence in Robertson and so does Joe [Girardi]. Robertson is going to be our closer, and I believe he will do a good job." Robertson has posted a 1.91 ERA and 12.0 K/9 over the past three seasons and has made strides with his control, so he has the potential to be a top-10 closer in fantasy leagues right away.

Yankees avoided arbitration with RHP David Robertson by agreeing to a one-year, $5.215 million contract.
It was Robertson's final year of arbitration eligibility. After setting up for the great Mariano Rivera the last few years, Robertson is slated to take over as the Yankees' closer in 2014.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday that he hasn't settled on David Robertson as the 2014 closer.
Mariano Rivera has retired, and replacing him could prove to be a tough task for the Yankees. "I'm not sure if Robertson is capable yet. He's never done that before," Cashman said at the GM Meetings in Florida. "I think he's earned the right to take a shot at it, and he very well may be the guy. But we're not anointing him the guy."

David Robertson, not Mariano Rivera, was called upon to protect a one-run lead in Friday's victory against the Astros.
As he often does, Robertson came through the inning unscathed, striking out one in the process. It was a passing of the torch moment for the Yankees, as Robertson is slated to take over as the Yankees primary closer next season with the departure of Mariano Rivera. He now owns a 5-1 record, 2.07 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 77/18 K/BB ratio over 65 1/3 innings while converting three of his five save chances.

David Robertson struggled in his second appearance back Thursday, giving up three runs in the eighth against the Orioles.
Considering that Robertson just missed five days with a sore shoulder, it's pretty stunning that the Yankees used him for a second straight day Thursday. As poorly as it worked out, we wonder if we'll be hearing more about Robertson's shoulder in future days.

David Robertson (shoulder) said the he felt better on Saturday, but will still rest for the next 3-4 days before attempting to throw again.
Robertson was diagnosed with tendinitis in his shoulder after undergoing an MRI earlier in the week. Robertson also noted that he wasn't worried that his injury was significant, which is certainly an encouraging sign for his outlook the remainder of the season.

David Robertson nailed down his second save of the season with a perfect ninth inning in Thursday's win over the Blue Jays.
Mariano Rivera was unavailable having already saved the first two games of the series, but luckily the Bombers have an elite setup man to step in. Robertson got two groundouts and a flyout to seal the win, lowering his ERA to 1.68 and WHIP to 0.97.

Despite retiring just two of the five batters he faced, David Robertson picked up a save against the Angels on Monday.
The Yankees had to go it without Mariano Rivera tonight, and they chose Boone Logan to start the ninth over Robertson. He retired one of the two hitters he faced. Robertson came in and walked Mike Trout, gave up an RBI double to Josh Hamilton and intentionally walked Erick Aybar before striking out both Mark Trumbo and Chris Nelson on pitches out of the strike zone. Robertson didn't have his best stuff tonight after pitching both Friday and Sunday, but he had just enough to get the job done.
