David Ortiz played the role of hero on Thursday, belting a three-run walkoff homer that powered the Red Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Rangers. Jonny Gomes started the rally with a leadoff double off Michael Kirkman in the ninth, and Dustin Pedroia was intentionally walked to get to Big Papi. It was his only hit in four trips to the plate on the evening, but he certainly made the most of it. He's been incredible since returning from the disabled list, hitting .325/.399/.624 with 11 bombs and 42 RBI through his first 42 games.

David Ortiz doubled and tripled, driving in three runs as the Red Sox beat the Rangers on Tuesday. Ortiz did all his damage off starter Justin Grimm, as he drove in a run with a first-inning double before bringing in two more with the triple in the second inning. Papi was slowed by bad wheels to start the season, but the triple -- his first of 2013 and 17th of his career -- indicates he's feeling alright these days.

David Ortiz is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Phillies. The DH is not available under National League rules, so Ortiz will take a seat. Look for him to play first base Thursday and Mike Napoli to get the day off.

David Ortiz will start at first base in one of the games in Philadelphia this week. The designated hitter won't be available under National League rules, so Ortiz will play the field on either Wednesday or Thursday. As a result, Mike Napoli will take a seat.

David Ortiz was 3-for-4 with two homers and six RBI in Boston's 12-5 rout of the Twins on Saturday. Ortiz hit a three-run shot in the top of the first inning, a run-scoring single in the top of the third and a two-run bomb in the top of the seventh. The veteran designated hitter has regressed some from his hot start but is still sporting an outstanding .362/.408/.681 batting line with seven homers and 29 RBI in 24 games.

David Ortiz went 3-for-4 with an RBI single Friday against the Twins. Ortiz has now hit safely in five straight games, but this was his first multi-hit game since April 30. Hopefully this is a sign that his recent oblique issue is behind him.

David Ortiz hit his fifth home run of the season Tuesday, but the Red Sox lost to the Rays. Ortiz hit his homer, a three-run shot, off southpaw Matt Moore in the first inning of Tuesday's game. Unfortunately for Ortiz and the Red Sox, it was the only damage they would inflict on the lefty. After starting out like a house on fire Ortiz has cooled in recent days, going just 1-for-17 with no RBI in his previous four games. Even so, the DH is now hitting .329 with 20 RBI in 20 games.

David Ortiz has been nursing some left oblique soreness since the May 3-5 series against the Rangers. Ortiz thinks it's partly to blame for his recent skid, though it obviously didn't affect him when he belted a three-run homer Tuesday. He'll continue to play through the ailment just as long as it doesn't get any worse.

David Ortiz went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and an intentional walk Friday against the Blue Jays. Ortiz left five runners on base. The veteran slugger was on fire when he came off the disabled list, but he's now hitless over his last 16 at-bats. Even with his recent struggles, his batting average sits at .338. He should bust out again soon.

David Ortiz is not in the Red Sox lineup Thursday. It's only a routine day of maintenance for the big designated hitter, who is batting .487/.512/.897 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 10 games since returning from the disabled list. Ortiz will be back in there Friday.
