Daniel Murphy (intercostal) is aiming to play in a game on the major league side of camp on Thursday. If that happens, he is unlikely to start the regular season on the 15-day disabled list because the Mets will no longer be able to backdate his stint. Murphy has been slowed recently by an intercostal muscle injury.

Daniel Murphy (intercostal) played in a minor league game Monday. Murphy went 0-for-5 at the plate and played seven innings at second base. If the Mets bring him back over to the Grapefruit League side, that would be a pretty good indication about his readiness for the start of the season. As of now, he still looks iffy.

Daniel Murphy (intercostal) has been cleared to play in a minor league game Sunday. Assuming that goes well, he should be back in Grapefruit League action soon. Murphy recently had a minor setback with his intercostal muscle in a minor league game, but he's obviously making progress. It's not clear whether he'll be ready by Opening Day, though.

Daniel Murphy (intercostal) took batting practice Friday. Murphy had a minor setback in a minor league game a week ago, so he's inching closer to return to action. For what it's worth, Mets manager Terry Collins believes that Murphy needs to start playing in games this weekend in order to get ready for Opening Day. He's not a consideration to play Saturday, so the clock is ticking. Chances are he'll need a DL-stint.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday that David Wright is further along in his recovery than Daniel Murphy. They both have intercostal strains, but Murphy's is a bit more severe. Wright is considered questionable for the start of the season, which means Murphy is probably ticketed for the 15-day disabled list. The 27-year-old second baseman should be ready around mid-April.

Daniel Murphy (intercostal) remains stiff and won't be ready to play in a minor league game until at least Wednesday. Mets manager Terry Collins indicated that it's possible Murphy might not be ready for the start of the season, as he said Jordany Valdespin is the contingency plan at third base if both Murphy and David Wright need DL time. Murphy has been out all spring after straining an intercostal muscle early in camp.

Daniel Murphy (intercostal) was unable to play in a minor league game as scheduled Saturday due to some stiffness after playing five innings Friday. The Mets aren't considering it a setback, as general manager Sandy Alderson believes Murphy was simply fatigued. He should be ready for Grapefruit League action before long.

Daniel Murphy (intercostal strain) said he felt good after participating in a minor league game on Friday. Murphy has been sidelined from game action the entire spring after straining an intercostal muscle early in camp. He was able to take batting practice before the game, and manned his position for five innings defensively without any issues. The Mets are confident that he'll be ready to go for Opening Day. While he doesn't offer much in terms of power or speed, he's a solid average guy who could be useable as a middle infielder in deeper leagues.

Daniel Murphy (intercostal strain) will take batting practice, run the bases, and field grounders and turn double plays on Wednesday. Murphy has yet to make his Grapefruit League debut due to a strained intercostal muscle suffered early on in camp. As of a couple of days ago, the Mets were hoping that he would play in a game by the end of the week. Assuming he makes it through Wednesday's workout without incident, that could be a realistic goal.

The Mets are hoping to get Daniel Murphy (intercostal strain) back in the lineup before the end of the week. Murphy has not played since February 18 due to a strained intercostal muscle. He won't need many at-bats to get ready for the season, so he should be fine for Opening Day as long as he doesn't have a setback.
