Descalso is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The Diamondbacks are still favoring Descalso in the second-base platoon with Brandon Drury, but Descalso will find himself on the bench against a right-handed pitcher (Brad Peacock) nonetheless in light of his lack of production lately. Descalso is slashing just .184/.244/.237 on the month, so if Drury -- who has been slumping for an even longer period of time -- is able to turn in a quality performance while filing in for Descalso on Tuesday, manager Torey Lovullo could revisit how he divvies up the starts at the keystone.

Descalso is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Aside from a three-hit game Thursday, Descalso has just two hits in nine games this month, so he'll head to the bench for a breather. Brandon Drury will start in his place at the keystone.

Descalso went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Thursday's 8-6 loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso was the only batter in Arizona's lineup except for the pitcher with a sub-.450 slugging percentage, but he provides value in his own right through defensive versatility and a patient approach at the plate. This effort raised Descalso's OBP to .344 and he's within striking distance of his 2013 career highs of 43 apiece in both runs and RBI.

Descalso is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso will head to the bench after starting the past three games as Adam Rosales draws the start at second. Over the last nine games, Descalso is just 2-for-26 from the plate, but remains the number one option at the keystone moving forward.

Descalso went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
After Chris Owings suffered a fractured finger July 30 that ultimately resulted in his placement on the 60-day disabled list, it was expected that Brandon Drury would be first in line to assume a regular starting role in the middle infield. It's been Descalso who has emerged as manager Torey Lovullo's preferred option at the keystone, however, as he's picked up four starts at the position to Drury's two since Owings went down with the injury. With a .341 on-base percentage on the season, Descalso hasn't been an easy out for opposing pitchers, but his fantasy appeal is limited by a .233 average and a lack of power or speed. The ability to take a walk and play capable defense looks like it will still be enough to keep Descalso ahead of Drury, who is batting just .204/.264/.306 since the All-Star break.

Descalso started at second base and went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Tuesday's 16-4 loss to the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso moved from the keystone to the mound in the eighth inning, retiring the side and, more importantly, helping the Diamondbacks preserve the bullpen a bit amid the blowout loss. With Chris Owings (finger) and Nick Ahmed (hand) on the 60-day disabled list and Ketel Marte (personal) on the bereavement list, Descalso should be locked into at least semi-regular starts until Marte is activated.

Descalso went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Monday's 10-2 win over the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Though J.D. Martinez (wrist) was cleared to return to the lineup for the series opener, the versatile Descalso managed to stick in the starting nine for the fifth consecutive game, manning second base this time with Brandon Drury getting the day off. It's expected that Descalso's playing-time opportunities will still take a hit from here on out, but he'll likely earn at least a handful of starts per week thanks to his ability to slot in at a number of different positions and steady eye at the plate. Descalso has racked up eight walks in his last seven games, which has helped him atone for a 4-for-19 showing at the plate during that time.

Descalso will start in left field and lead off Sunday against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Descalso will draw his fourth straight start Sunday, mostly as a byproduct of the newly acquired J.D. Martinez still battling a hand injury. Since A.J. Pollock will join Martinez on the bench for rest in the series finale, Descalso will benefit from a move up in the lineup, though it may not improve his DFS outlook much with a tough matchup with the Nats' Stephen Strasburg awaiting him.

Descalso went 0-for-2 with a walk, run and RBI in Thursday's 12-2 win over the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
The Diamondbacks gave several key regulars the afternoon off due to the early start time of Thursday's contest, allowing Descalso to not only reenter the lineup, but also serve as the club's leadoff man. He walked in his first plate appearance of the game and would later to come around to score on Jake Lamb's three-run homer, giving the Diamondbacks an early lead that they would maintain throughout the day. With a .349 on-base percentage on the season, Descalso has been serviceable when he enters the lineup, particularly while Yasmany Tomas (groin) has been sidelined since early June. However, with the newly acquired J.D. Martinez primed to serve as the team's everyday left fielder once he recovers from a minor hand injury, Descalso will likely see his opportunities dwindle over the weeks to come.

Descalso is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Reds, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Following the Diamondbacks' acquisition of J.D. Martinez on Tuesday night, David Peralta will move over to left field while Martinez occupies right field, his natural position. This alignment leaves Descalso without a path to consistent playing time. He's been playing fairly well over the summer, posting a .278 batting average with 21 RBI in June and July, although he'll likely only get starts one or two days per week now that he's back in a reserve utility role.
