Rockies optioned RHP Collin McHugh to Triple-A Colorado Springs. McHugh got a start in place of the injured Drew Pomeranz on Saturday but was pounded for six runs over five innings. The Rockies haven't announced who will occupy the No. 5 spot later this week.

McHugh tossed seven shutout frames in his major league debut on August 23, but he has allowed 18 runs (15 earned) in 13 innings since. The 25-year-old right-hander has logged a career-high 168 1/3 innings this season between the minors and the majors, so it's possible he is dealing with some fatigue. As of now, he lines up to face the Marlins next Monday.

Collin McHugh was hammered in a losing effort against the Pirates on Tuesday, surrendering seven runs on five hits in just 1 1/3 innings of work. McHugh issued three free passes without striking out a batter. Pedro Alvarez hit three-run bomb in the first inning and a Josh Harrison added a two-run triple in the second. McHugh had posted a solid 3.86 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through 18 2/3 innings coming into the game, but the Pirates were all over him from the start. He'll attempt to get back on track when he wraps up his season against the Marlins in Miami on Monday.
