Rea allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Tuesday against Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
This marks Rea's first quality start since he went eight innings and allowed just one run May 5 against the Mets. He has managed to go six innings just three times all season and still has just a 44:25 K:BB in 62.2 innings, so it's hard to see this trend reversing itself anytime soon, as Rea's success Tuesday night may have been as much about Atlanta's dismal lineup as anything else.

Rea was charged with six runs (five earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out three over 5.1 innings against the Mariners on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Rea and the Padres held a 12-2 lead after five innings, but the San Diego bullpen imploded in spectacular fashion. It was Rea's first start back in the majors following a brief stint in the minors, which was part of a plan to manage his innings total -- Rea has maxed out at 139 innings in a season as a professional. He has shown flashes at times this year, but most in deeper leagues will want to continue picking their spots with the right-hander.

Rea was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday and will start Thursday's game against the Mariners, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rea owns a 4.47 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in nine starts for the Padres this season. He will face a tough Seattle lineup that ranks fifth in the league in runs scored. Leonel Campos will be optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.

Rea is a likely candidate to start Thursday in place of Cesar Vargas (elbow), Bill Center of Padres.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rea is tentatively scheduled to make a brief appearance for Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, but now that a rotation spot has opened up, it seems unlikely the right-hander will toss more pitches than a regular bullpen session. The Padres had originally planned to take a conservative approach with the 25-year-old, but now that a need for a spot start has arose, there's a chance he sees Major League action again much quicker than originally expected.

Rea is scheduled to throw 3 to 4 innings in Triple-A El Paso's game Sunday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Andy Green says Rea will make at least one or two of these abbreviated starts as part of tapering his workload for the season. Thus, this is simply a precautionary appearance for the young pitcher, who will likely return to the majors later on. Rea has already eclipsed 50 innings this season, a number the Padres don't seem inclined to push.

Rea was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Rea owns an ERA of 4.47, and most recently pitched on Sunday during the Padres 16-inning loss to the Dodgers. Rea will be replaced by bullpen pitcher Keith Hessler for the time being, as the Padres need some relief help after the long game Sunday. Rea can return to the major league rotation in 10 days.

Rea allowed three runs with three strikeouts and two walks across five innings Sunday versus the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Rea delivered the latest in a series of solid, yet unspectacular performances Sunday, and he actually pitched into the sixth inning, although he was pulled after allowing the first three men to reach. His ERA sits at an uninspiring 4.47 and he will face a tough test in his next start; Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.

Rea (3-2) pitched five innings, allowing three runs, four hits and two walks while striking out three in Tuesday's loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
The second inning doomed the righty as he gave up three hits, including a three-run homer to Brandon Crawford, and faced seven hitters before getting out of the frame. In each of Rea's poor starts this season, the recurring theme has been inefficiency. He needed 94 pitches to get through Tuesday's five-inning outing, marking the fifth time this season he's needed at least 90 pitches or more to get through five innings or fewer. Not coincidentally, Rea's three quality starts have been his three most efficient efforts. He'll look to rebound Sunday when he makes his next start against the Dodgers.

Rea (3-1) allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking four over five innings in the first game of a doubleheader against the Cubs on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
He left trailing in the game, but the Padres rallied to score four runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to win 7-4. This outing raised Rea's ERA to 4.24, but since allowing five runs on April 8, he has posted a 3.25 ERA over 36 innings. His next start will be Tuesday against the Giants.

Rea (3-1) shut the Mets down over eight innings Thursday, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five in a 5-3 win.
EDGE Analysis
He took a no-hitter into the seventh and didn't give up a run until Curtis Granderson chased him from the game with a leadoff homer in the ninth. Rea even helped his own cause by hitting an RBI single. He's turned in two quality starts in a row, but the 25-year-old righty typically struggles with his control and is quite hittable, so he doesn't make for much of a fantasy play outside NL-only formats.
