Rea (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings to earn the win Saturday at the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Rea gave up a two-run homer to Chase Utley, but otherwise kept the Dodgers' bats silent while the offense gave him plenty of run support for the win. He's now allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his last four starts to lower his ERA to 4.61. He'll make his next start Thursday against the Mets.

Rea allowed three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts and two walks across five innings Sunday versus the Cardinals. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old allowed nine baserunners, but he was able to limit the damage by holding St. Louis to just one extra-base hit. Rea struggled in his first start of the season, but he has actually posted a 3.17 ERA in three turns since and seems to be figuring some things out. He will look to keep up his recent success Saturday versus the Dodgers.

Rea (1-1) allowed three earned runs on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts over five innings, but that was enough to beat the Pirates on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Rea benefited from facing an out-of-control Francisco Liriano, who allowed the Padres to erase an early 3-0 deficit in the fourth and fifth innings. He benefits from pitching in the spacious Petco Park, but the 25-year-old will still be a risky play at home against the Cardinals in his next start Sunday based on his lackluster results to date.

Rea lost to the Phillies on Wednesday, but he did only allow one earned run on five hits over seven innings. He also struck out five and walked two.
EDGE Analysis
After allowing five runs in 3.2 innings during his last outing, Rea needed a quality start to keep his spot in the rotation. He should remain the Padres No. 4 starter for now.

Rea gave up five runs on six hits and four walks in 3.1 innings, but got a no-decision, in Friday's loss at Colorado. He did strike out five batters.
EDGE Analysis
While Rea's poor outing could be chalked up to a start at Coors Field, it's notable that Robby Erlin didn't give up a run in 3.2 innings in relief after Rea was pulled. Erlin lost out to Rea for a spot in the rotation, so Rea will need to rebound to keep his spot.

Rea gave up a run in one inning in a relief appearance in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Rea will still start on Friday at Colorado, but he got some work in during a 15-0 blowout loss. He'll begin the season in the rotation as the No. 4 starter.

Rea will be the starting pitcher Friday against the Rockies, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was unclear whether Rea or Drew Pomeranz would be the fourth starter for the Padres to start the season, but it appears that Rea has claimed the spot. He's slated to face Jordan Lyles in his season debut.

Rea won a spot in the Padres rotation with Robbie Erlin sent to Triple-A, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although Rea didn't have the strongest spring, posting a 5.738 ERA, Padres brass must have seen enough positive signs to warrant awarding him the job.

Rea has made the Opening Day roster in San Diego, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rea had been in competition with Drew Pomeranz and Robbie Erlin for the fourth and fifth starter jobs, but after San Diego announced its roster Sunday, Erlin ended up being the odd man out. Rea didn't have the strongest spring (5.48 ERA), but Padres' brass must have seen enough positive signs to warrant awarding him the job.

Rea gave up three runs over five innings with six strikeouts, but five walks, in Tuesday's spring training start. Despite his spring ERA rising to 5.73, manager Andy Green says he's still in the running for a spot in the rotation, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
San Diego's competition for the final three spots in the rotation between Rea, Robbie Erlin and Drew Pomeranz seems unlikely to be decided until just before Opening Day.
