Rea is scheduled to throw 3 to 4 innings in Triple-A El Paso's game Sunday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Andy Green says Rea will make at least one or two of these abbreviated starts as part of tapering his workload for the season. Thus, this is simply a precautionary appearance for the young pitcher, who will likely return to the majors later on. Rea has already eclipsed 50 innings this season, a number the Padres don't seem inclined to push.
