Cole Hamels (shoulder) threw a successful 40-plus-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.
Hamels was "pleased" with the session and told CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury that he "feels strong." The left-hander, dogged by a case of shoulder tendinitis, is scheduled to throw to batters on Saturday, a key step in his rehabilitation. His arrival in the rotation is best guessed at mid-April or early-May.

Cole Hamels (shoulder) said he was "thoroughly impressed" with how his 33-pitch bullpen session went Sunday.
"I've been able to bounce back well," Hamels said. "My strength is there." Coming back from a bout of shoulder tendinitis, Hamels will throw another bullpen session Wednesday. He'll face hitters after that and seems likely to appear in a Grapefruit League game by the end of the month. The lefty is expected to miss most, if not all, of April.

Cole Hamels (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session on Sunday.
Hamels came through Wednesday's bullpen session with no issues. "I feel really good," he said. "I was able to bounce back." It's not clear whether the veteran left-hander will be able to get in a Grapefruit League game by the end of the month. He's expected to miss most, if not all, of April.

Phillies pitching coach Bob McClure said Thursday that it's not clear when Cole Hamels (shoulder) will throw next.
Hamels tested his shoulder with a bullpen session Wednesday and reported no problems Thursday, but there either isn't a set date for him to throw again or the Phillies are playing coy. For what it's worth, McClure predicted Wednesday that Hamels will throw again on Friday or Saturday. Either way, he's a long way away from game action. Even if all goes well, he's not expected to join the Phillies' rotation until May.

Cole Hamels (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session Wednesday morning.
This is a positive step for a player who arrived in camp suffering from shoulder tendinitis and then was hit with another setback last week. Phillies pitching coach Bob McClure told the media that the session went well. Philadelphia maintains that Hamels has a chance of pitching in a game this month, but that doesn't seem likely. His arrival in the rotation is best guessed at mid-April or early-May.

Cole Hamels is scheduled to test his sore left shoulder with a bullpen session on Wednesday in camp.
Hamels was behind schedule when he arrived in Florida due to offseason shoulder tendinitis and then suffered a setback last week. He can probably be ruled out for all of April unless the situation rapidly improves. A successful bullpen workout Wednesday would be a good start.

Cole Hamels has suffered a setback in his recovery from left shoulder tendinitis.
Hamels explained to reporters Thursday morning that he does not have renewed pain in his throwing shoulder but rather feels fatigued. He was aiming to make his Grapefruit League debut early next week with an eye on joining the Phillies' starting rotation around mid-April. Now the left-hander may have to be ruled out until May.

Cole Hamels (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday and said he hopes to throw live batting practice sometime next week.
"Everything felt really good," Hamels said after the session. "My pitches are really coming along. I'm really able to execute down in the zone. I know that's something Bob [McClure, pitching coach] preaches to everybody. I know I'm pretty good at doing that, so to get into my second bullpen and execute down in the zone, correct pitches within a pitch, having the control, it feels great." The left-hander dealt with shoulder tendinitis earlier this spring, but he's progressed nicely in recent days. He still might not be ready for the start of the season, but at this point he may only miss a start or two.

Cole Hamels (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Wednesday for the first time this spring.
Hamels is behind schedule this spring after he showed up to camp with shoulder tendinitis, but he reported no issues Wednesday. "It was good," said Hamels. "Better than expected, which is huge. It didn't feel as foreign, getting off the mound after such a long time. But everything felt good." Hamels is scheduled to throw his next bullpen session Saturday and will continue to progress from there, but the expectation is that he will not be ready for the start of the season. However, he should be able to join the Phillies' rotation in the early part of April if all goes well.

Cole Hamels (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday for the first time this spring.
Hamels was originally expected to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, but it was pushed back for scheduling reasons and not because of his shoulder. The southpaw is still expected to miss the start of the season, but he could be ready in the early part of April if he can avoid setbacks.
