EDGE Analysis
Though he didn't come through with the victory, Hamels more or less continued his career dominance against his hometown team, as he now carries a 2.25 ERA over 17 starts versus the Padres. After getting off to a rough start to his stint with the Rangers, Hamels has seemingly begun to settle in of late, generating eight or more strikeouts in three of his last four outings.

Hamels (8-8) went eight innings in Friday's win over Baltimore, striking out 10 while surrendering a single run on two hits and four walks.
EDGE Analysis
This is more along the lines of what Texas had in mind when they dealt for Hamels last month. In his first two starts for the Rangers, Hamels was shelled for five combined homers. In the three starts since, Hamels has kept the ball in the yard while posting a 2.57 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 21 innings. With Texas in the thick of the wild card race, expect them to lean heavily on their new-found ace and for Hamels to continue to find his footing as he adjust to new surroundings.

The Texas Rangers announced Tuesday that pitcher Cole Hamels has been scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday because of a sore groin, according to MLB.com. Hamels is unlikely to be placed on the disabled list because of the injury and the team has yet to decide whether he will be skipped in the rotation or simply pushed back a couple of days. “I don’t want to change the dynamic too much,” Hamels said. “There is a way they have approached pitchers that has allowed them to be the best they can. When you are on a roll, you definitely want to be on a schedule. At the same time, I haven’t proven anything yet.” The Rangers' options include pushing Martin Perez up a day to pitch Thursday on normal rest, or promoting Chi Chi Gonzalez from the minor leagues to make a spot start.

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels threw his first career no-hitter Saturday against the Chicago Cubs. Hamels struck out 13 batters, while the Cubs were no-hit for the first time since 1965. "Nothing will top winning a World Series, but this is right under it," said Hamels in an interview after the game. The no-hit bid looked to be at risk of being broken up when Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant sent a deep fly to the warning track with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but center fielder Odubel Herrera recovered in time to make the catch. Hamels, who had allowed 14 runs in his previous two outings, has been the subject of rampant trade rumors of late and is widely expected to be moved before the July 31 deadline despite four years and nearly $80 million left on his contract.

Hamels was torched for nine runs on 12 hits in 3.1 innings against the Giants on Friday.
The nine runs allowed were a career high for Hamels and the 12 hits tied a career high. It is fair to say this was the worst start of his career. Hamels saw his ERA inflate from 3.02 to 3.63 with the poor outing. He will likely make his next start in the Phillies' first game after the All-Star break.

Hamels pitched seven scoreless innings Sunday. He allowed six hits while striking out six and walking none.
Hamels continues to pitch well, but he hasn't picked up a win since May 23 thanks to the Phillies' anemic offense. He has allowed two runs or less in five of his last seven starts. His run support of 2.38 per nine innings is the worst in baseball. He will face the Giants in his final start before the All-Star break.
