Hamels has faced just seven hitters in official exhibition game action, opting to throw against minor-leaguers as he prepares for the season according to the team's web site.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels has given way to other starters competing for a rotation spot, so scanning the stats and seeing just one appearance for the Texas ace isn't a cause for alarm.

Hamels was charged with four runs (two earned) on six hits over seven innings against the Blue Jays on Friday in Game 2 of the ALDS. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.
EDGE Analysis
Both Hamels and Toronto starter Marcus Stroman turned in strong performances, but the bullpens ended up deciding the game, with the Rangers getting two runs off LaTroy Hawkins in the 14th inning. The Rangers are in great position, now up 2-0 and heading to Texas, and Hamels likely won't pitch until the Championship Series unless the Blue Jays win two in a row.

EDGE Analysis
Hamels gave up four extra-base hits including two home runs, but he managed to keep the Rangers in what turned out to be a wild game. His final three innings went scoreless with four strikeouts to clinch the victory, and Hamels deserves credit for lasting through a difficult opening three innings. He has lost just once for the Rangers.

Hamels (5-1) picked up an easy win on Thursday, as he went six shutout innings while allowing four hits and three walks while striking out two in a 9-1 win over the A's.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers have now won eight straight games in which Hamels has started and it's clear that trade really started this impressive run that will likely win them their division. Over his last six starts, Hamels has a 2.57 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 39 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched. The length is what the Rangers appreciate most though, as he;s gone at least six innings in every start with his new team.

This is a nice break for his fantasy owners, as Hamels will now be able to make three more starts this season instead of two. Yovani Gallardo will switch places with Hamels and take the ball Friday against the Astros.

Hamels (4-1) was superb on Saturday, as he struck out 12 Mariners while allowing one run on seven hits in a 10-1 win.
EDGE Analysis
Since the acquisition of Hamels, the Rangers are one of the best teams in baseball. This was by far the lefties strongest performance for the Rangers and it comes as no surprise against a lefty-heavy lineup like the Mariners. In his nine starts with Texas, he has gone at least six innings in each and Hamels is being the work horse that they were expecting. He'll look to continue his fantastic form against the Astros next Friday.

Hamels allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings in a no decision Monday against Houston. He struck out four and walked one.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels continues to go deep in games for the Rangers, but he's been vulnerable throughout his tenure in Texas. Hamels has allowed at least three runs in six of his eight starts for the Rangers after doing so just seven times in 20 starts for Philadelphia before the trade. Still, Hamels has gone at least seven innings in six of his eight Rangers starts, and he has done enough to give them chances to win, as they now have in his last six straight starts.

Hamels' next start was pushed back to Monday against the Astros, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports.
EDGE Analysis
This move may be to get Hamels an extra day of rest, but more likely it is a strategic move to make sure Hamels pitches against the team the Rangers are chasing in the A.L. West. Hamels will now line up for two starts next week. Chi Chi Gonzalez will be recalled to start Sunday's game.

Hamels won his third game as a Ranger on Tuesday against Seattle, as he allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Hamels gave up three runs in the seventh inning pitching with a 7-1 lead and was allowed to work through the jam; in a close game, the situation may have seen a reliever put out the fire before three runs crossed home plate. He has a 4.07 ERA but a sharp 44:15 K:BB since coming to the Rangers. This outing snapped a four-start quality start streak.
