Orioles manager Buck Showalter on Monday named Chris Tillman the club's Opening Day starter.
It's the team's fifth different Opening Day starter in the last five years. Tillman earned the gig by going 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA over 33 stars last season for the O's. He'll be followed in the rotation by Ubaldo Jimenez.

Chris Tillman allowed one run in five-plus innings Saturday in the Orioles' 2-1 win over a Yankees split-squad.
It looked like Tillman would be done after five, but he came back out for the sixth and gave up a homer to Francisco Arcia before being pulled. Tillman's strong outing today came even though the Orioles used an outfield of Steve Pearce, Nelson Cruz and Delmon Young behind him. It's safe to say that won't happen during the regular season.

Chris Tillman was tagged for five runs in 3 1/3 innings by the Pirates on Monday.
Tillman struck out four and walked none, but he gave up six hits, one of them a two-run homer to Russell Martin. Overall, he's allowed eight runs -- six earned -- in 7 2/3 innings on the spring, even though he's yet to walk a batter and he's given up just the one homer. We don't expect him to match last year's numbers, but his spring struggles don't seem like much of a concern.

Chris Tillman allowed three runs -- one earned -- on four hits over 2 1/3 innings in a win over the Twins on Wednesday.
Tillman struck out two and didn't walk a batter. The right-hander now has a 2.08 ERA through his first 4 1/3 innings of spring. The All-Star has a rotation spot sewn up after going 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA last season, and should once again be a productive mid-round pick in drafts.

Chris Tillman pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three in the Orioles' 4-2 defeat of the Rays on Friday.
A Yunel Escobar double was the only blemish on his line. Tillman doesn't seem like a particularly good bet to match last year's 16 wins and 3.71 ERA, but the Orioles need him to come close if they're going to contend in the AL East.

Chris Tillman yielded five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Sunday.
He struck out five and walked one. Tillman allowed a pair of homers in the first two innings -- to Jacoby Ellsbury and Quintin Berry, respectively, who entered the game with just eight homers total this season -- that accounted for three runs on his ledger. Tillman finishes the season 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA and 179 strikeouts in a career-high 206 1/3 innings.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter has yet to decide whether Chris Tillman will start on Sunday against the Red Sox as scheduled.
The O's are out of playoff contention and Tillman has already thrown a career-high 201 1/3 innings. However, the Red Sox are still playing for home field advantage, so Showalter has also considered the importance of the game. If Tillman doesn't go, Jason Hammel could start on three days' rest.

Chris Tillman was superb but denied a 17th win Tuesday, striking out nine while tossing seven frames of one-run ball in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Tillman permitted just five hits and issued only one free pass, throwing 113 pitches on the night. He exited with a 2-1 lead but watched the Orioles' bullpen cough up the advantage and eventually lose in extras. Tillman is currently in line to start the regular season finale against the Red Sox, but that could change with the O's eliminated from playoff contention.

Chris Tillman surrendered four earned runs over eight innings Saturday as the Orioles lost in Toronto.
Tillman allowed only six hits over those eight frames, but one was a Moises Sierra two-run double and another was a two-run Colby Rasmus homer. Tillman walked two and struck out four. He'll carry a 3.70 ERA and 1.22 WHIP into his next start at Tropicana Field.

Chris Tillman struck out nine while allowing two runs in seven innings Monday in a win over the Yankees.
Alex Rodriguez and Lyle Overbay homered, but they were solo shots and Tillman allowed just two other hits. It's the third time in his last seven starts that Tillman has struck out nine. His high was eight in his previous 72 major league starts.
