Paddack's early exit from his start in Sunday's game against the Athletics was due to right elbow inflammation, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Paddack recorded four strikeouts and was charged with three runs on five hits and no walks before he departed with one out in the third inning. The diagnosis of inflammation rather than tightness or a strain bodes well for Paddack's chances of avoiding an extended absence, though the injury could still be significant enough to force him to the IL. The Twins should have a better idea regarding the severity of his elbow issue after evaluating him in the next day or two.

The Twins removed Paddack from his start Sunday against the Athletics due to an apparent injury. He struck out four over 2.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits and left two runners on base before exiting.
EDGE Analysis
Expect Minnesota to provide an update on Paddack's health later in the day after he was pulled from the contest following a visit to the mound from a team trainer. If Paddack is forced to miss time due to an injury, the Twins could condense from a six-man to five-man rotation rather than finding a replacement for him in the rotation.

Paddack (1-2) allowed one run on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Monday, striking out three and earning a win against Baltimore.
EDGE Analysis
Paddack yielded a pair of singles through four shutout frames before the Orioles got on the board with Ramon Urias' RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth. It was the third consecutive start in which he went at least five innings while allowing two or fewer runs. The 26-year-old is now sporting a 3.15 ERA and a 16:2 K:BB through 20 innings. Paddack is lined up to face Oakland at home this weekend.

Paddack pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering one run on five hits and a walk while striking out six in Tuesday's victory over the Tigers. He did not factor into the game's decision.
EDGE Analysis
Paddack had his best outing of the season Tuesday with his only blemish coming on a two-out double by Javier Baez in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring Derek Hill and ending the starter's day on the mound. His six strikeouts were a season-high and had the bullpen not blown it, he would have picked up his first win of the campaign. The right-hander's season numbers now sit at a 3.68 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 14.2 innings which has translated to an 0-2 record over three starts. Paddack will look to get that elusive first win with his new club when he takes on the Rays in his next expected start Sunday.

Paddack gave up two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks over five innings in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
Paddack improved in his second start with the Twins and put the team in a position to win but got no run support. He lasted just four innings in his first start and allowed three runs, but he has an impressive 7:0 K:BB ratio in 9 IP this season. He should remain in the rotation as long as he's pitching well and Sonny Gray (hamstring) remains on the IL.

Paddack (0-1) allowed three earned runs on six hits and no walks while striking out three across four innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Paddack allowed all of his runs in the first two innings of the game, though he settled in to retire six of the final seven batters he faced. While Paddack took the loss in his first start with the Twins, he did not allow a home run or a walk, the former of which is particularly important given that he entered the game having surrendered 1.5 HR/9 across 308 career innings in the majors. The Twins are employing a six-man rotation to begin the season, so his starts will be limited. Paddack currently projects to take the mound Wednesday at Kansas City.

President of baseball operations Derek Falvey said Thursday that Paddack will be one of six starters the Twins will use in the first turn through the rotation to begin the season, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Before he was dealt to Minnesota on Thursday, Paddack appeared to be on the outs for a spot in a crowded San Diego rotation, but the right-hander looks like he'll make at least one start for his new team. Falvey said that after all six starters have had a start, the Twins will re-evaluate the rotation ahead of the second turn. While Falvey's comments perhaps hint that the Twins could eventually revert to a five-man rotation, Paddack should have a starting role so long as he's pitching well. It can't be taken as a certainty that he'll be able to do that, given that he's turned in a 4.95 ERA over 167.1 innings between the past two seasons.

The Twins acquired Paddack and reliever Emilio Pagan from the Padres on Thursday in exchange for reliever Taylor Rogers and outfielder Brent Rooker, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
In the two seasons since his brilliant 2019 rookie campaign in which he submitted a 3.33 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 153:31 K:BB in 140.2 innings, Paddack's run in San Diego went sour. Dating back to the start of the 2020 season, Paddack has submitted a 4.95 ERA (4.22 FIP), with injury concerns and a shallow repertoire beyond his changeup contributing to his demise. He was on track to open the 2022 campaign outside of San Diego's rotation entirely, so the move to a new organization can only help him, even though it's not immediately clear if Paddack is one of the Twins' top five starters. At the very least, the 26-year-old Paddack gives Minnesota a young pitcher under club control for the next three seasons who has already had success in the majors.

Paddack and the Padres agreed Tuesday on a one-year deal to avoid arbitration.
EDGE Analysis
Though Paddack is officially on the books for 2022, his role heading into the season is in question. After turning in a 3.33 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 140.2 innings as a rookie in 2019, Paddack's performance has dropped off considerably the past two years, with his lack of reliable offerings beyond his fastball and changeup largely contributing to his demise. While he once seemed like a long-term linchpin in the rotation, Paddack may find himself without a starting role to begin the season with Mike Clevinger (elbow) returning from Tommy John surgery and with the Padres adding Nick Martinez on a four-year, $25.5 million deal in free agency. Paddack's shallow repertoire would likely present fewer issues for him as a reliever and could even make him a valuable multi-inning weapon out of the bullpen, though the lack of a full-time starting role would make him less useful for fantasy purposes.

Paddack (elbow) will start Sunday's spring game against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Paddack was shut down in September due to a slight UCL sprain in his right elbow, but it appears he's now healthy and is competing for a spot in the starting rotation. The 26-year-old struggled with a 5.07 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 99:22 K:BB across 108.1 innings during 2021.
