The Rox were considering bringing third base prospect Nolan Arenado north with them this season, but they have now officially decided against that. Nelson hit .301/.352/.458 with nine home runs and 53 RBI in 111 games last year. He'll carry some value in AL-only formats.

Nolan Arenado is still probably the future at third base for the Rockies, but with the way Nelson has played, he deserves first crack at the job next year. He's hit a little better than Jordan Pacheco this year, and he's pretty obviously the superior defender of the two.

Chris Nelson went 3-for-5 with an RBI versus the Dodgers on Wednesday. Nelson collected six hits in the series, raising his average to .279. If he keeps swinging like this, he should be the Rockies' primary third baseman after Troy Tulowitzki returns. Josh Rutledge presumably will play second base.
