Chipper Jones (calf) could go out on a short rehab assignment this weekend. Chipper got the stitches from his left leg removed Wednesday and did some sprints and took batting practice. The veteran doesn't think he needs to go on a rehab assignment, but it sounds like he'll be overruled. Regardless, he won't need more than a game or two and could still be back sometime over the weekend.

Chipper Jones (calf) is scheduled to take batting practice and field grounders on Tuesday. It will be his first baseball activities since undergoing a surgical procedure in late May to have fluid removed from his left leg. He's expected to get stitches out on Wednesday and hopes to talk his way into the lineup by the weekend. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez would prefer him to go out on a brief rehab assignment, though.

Updating a previous item, Chipper Jones (calf) underwent a surgical procedure Saturday to have fluid removed from his left leg. The procedure is being described as ''preventative.'' Jones expects to return soon after being eligible to come off the disabled list. Martin Prado and Juan Francisco will split time at third base in the interim.

Chipper Jones (calf) expects to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible. Jones received treatment on Saturday and doesn't think he'll require an extended absence. Juan Francisco will continue to see regular at-bats at third base.

Braves placed Chipper Jones on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24, with a bruised left calf. As expected. The Braves have yet to announce a corresponding roster move. Juan Francisco figures to see the majority of playing time at third base in his absence. The Braves are expected to call up a catcher to replace him on the active roster after David Ross left Friday's game with a groin injury.

The Braves will place Chipper Jones (calf) on the disabled list Saturday. Not surprising, as Jones' calf injury has only gotten worse over the past two days. He appeared as a pinch-hitter on Wednesday, so he won't be eligible to return for two weeks. Juan Francisco figures to see an uptick in playing time during his absence. The Braves will call up a catcher to replace him on the active roster after David Ross left Friday's game with a groin injury.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that Chipper Jones (calf) is "worse today than before." Jones hasn't played since suffering a left calf contusion when he was smacked in the leg by a line drive off the bat of Rays' outfielder B.J. Upton last Friday. According to O'Brien, the stiffness moved up in his calf after they "milked" the contusion on Wednesday. We're not sure what that means exactly, but it certainly sounds gross. He remains sidelined indefinitely.

Chipper Jones (calf) is not in Thursday's lineup. Jones was also held out of Wednesday's starting lineup but later appeared as a pinch-hitter. He's day-to-day.

Chipper Jones (calf) is out of the Braves' lineup for the fifth straight game Wednesday. Jones apparently still isn't over the left calf contusion he suffered last Friday. Juan Francisco will make another start at third base Wednesday.
