Chase Utley (knee) played one inning at second base Friday in an intrasquad game.
While it was only one inning, it was his first action in the field during his rehab assignment. But it's not clear when he'll do so in a game with High-A Clearwater. The 33-year-old second baseman is three games into his rehab stint and remains on track to rejoin the Phillies in early July, assuming no setbacks.

Chase Utley (knee) went 0-for-3 with two walks in his third rehab game with High-A Clearwater on Thursday.
Utley served as the DH for the third straight game. It's not clear when he'll start playing in the field. Still, with his 20-rehab clock ticking, he's on track to rejoin the Phillies in early July.

Chase Utley (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Clearwater.
Utley began playing in extended spring training games last week, but now he's ready for real game action. However, he's expected to start out as the DH before testing his knee by playing the field. The Phillies are likely to give him as many at-bats as possible, but assuming he doesn't have any setbacks, he should be back with the Phillies no later than July 2.

Chase Utley (knee) could begin playing the field next week.
Utley began playing in extended spring training games this week but has been relegated to DH duty thus far. He's fared well at the plate, but testing the knee out in the field will be the much bigger test. Knobler notes that the Phillies are now expecting Utley back before Ryan Howard (Achilles).

Chase Utley (knee) went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and a walk as the DH on Wednesday in an extended spring training game.
Utley and Ryan Howard were both in the same lineup Wednesday, but they still have plenty of work to do before making it back to the major league roster. There's a bit of a break in the extended spring training schedule coming up, so Utley will continue to play in simulated games and hit against live pitching. He's not expected to go out on a rehab assignment until at least June 15. His exact timeline is dependent upon how his knees respond to the increased activity.

Chase Utley (knee) won't begin a rehab assignment until at least June 15.
Utley played in his first extended spring training game Monday in the DH spot and will play in another one Wednesday after taking Tuesday off. There are no extended spring games after that until June 12, so he'll play in simulated games and continue his regular workouts. "Generally, Chase, when he's ready to go he'll let us know," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said. "Just like he did on Sunday." Amaro declined to comment on whether Utley would be ready before the All-Star break.

Chase Utley (knee) went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double as the DH on Monday in his first extended spring training game.
Nice to hear, but how Utley responds to playing in the field will be the big test. And he's not ready for that yet. The Phillies haven't ruled out the possibility that Utley play first base upon his return, though they will ultimately leave that decision up to him. Of course, whether that actually happens will depend on Ryan Howard's recovery from Achilles' tendon surgery.

Chase Utley said he's "pushed it and increased the intensity a little bit" and his knee has "responded well."
Utley took 25 grounders on Friday and Saturday after taking just 10 Thursday, and he's also shagged flies during batting practice. "Every day, it seems like it's getting a little bit better," Utley said Sunday. "The last couple of days I've pushed it and increased the intensity a little bit and they have responded well, so that's a good sign in my eyes." While he does seem to be progressing, Utley has yet to run the bases and he doesn't appear close to a rehab assignment.

Chase Utley (knee) fielded more than 20 grounders at second base before Saturday's game.
Utley was also allowed to throw to first base, which is the first time he's done so since incorporating fielding back into his drills. The veteran infielder's progress has been slow, but it does appear that he's coming along. He remains without a timetable for return.

Chase Utley (knee) felt "pretty good" after fielding grounders Wednesday.
In fact, Utley felt good enough to run Thursday and plans on fielding grounders for a second straight day. "I'm trying to get to a point where when we start going for it, I feel pretty comfortable," said Utley. "I've realized over the course of this time that the more I push it and feel uncomfortable, the worse it can get. We try to make small progressions. Taking ground balls yesterday was a good sign. I felt pretty good today. I plan on doing the same." Utley is clearly making progress, but there are no immediate plans to send him on a minor league rehab assignment.
