Anderson was released by the Phillies on Sunday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Thursday and has now parted ways with the team. The veteran right-hander struggled as both a starter and reliver this season with a 6.75 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 35:20 K:BB across 48 innings (14 appearances).

The Phillies designated Anderson for assignment Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The well-traveled right-hander will cede his spot on the active roster to Zach Eflin (kneecap), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Thursday versus the Diamondbacks. Whether working out of the rotation or as a long reliever for Philadelphia, Anderson found little success. Over 48 innings Anderson posted a 6.75 ERA (5.85 FIP) and 1.48 WHIP.

The Phillies reinstated Anderson (triceps) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson spent just over the minimum amount of time on the IL with right triceps tendinitis, but his absence may have been long enough to cost him his spot in the rotation. After Anderson had served as the Phillies' fifth starter prior to going on the shelf, Matt Moore stepped into the rotation in his stead and tossed six no-hit innings in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Reds. Look for Moore to be rewarded with another start during the upcoming week, leaving Anderson to work out of the bullpen for the time being.

Anderson was placed on the 10-day injured list with right triceps tendinitis Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 5.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson had a rough outing against the Nationals on Wednesday and allowed three home runs in four innings, and he'll miss at least one turn through the rotation after he was diagnosed with a triceps injury. The Phillies will be able to skip his scheduled start early next week since the team has a day off Monday, but they haven't announced who will take his place in the rotation if he misses more than the minimum of 10 days.

Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 9-5 win over the Nationals, giving up three runs on three hits -- all solo home runs -- and a walk over four innings. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old's difficulty keeping the ball in the yard led to an early 3-0 hole for the Phillies, and while Anderson's offense bailed him out, he still exited before he could get credit for a win. With Zach Eflin (knee) potentially close to returning and Ranger Suarez looking good so far as a starter, Anderson's return to the rotation doesn't figure to last long.

Anderson is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
At least temporarily, Anderson will join the rotation as a replacement for Vince Velasquez, who was moved to the bullpen Saturday after another rocky start. Anderson is unlikely to represent much of an upgrade from Velasquez, as he's been hit hard this season whether working as a starter or a long reliever. The 33-year-old right-hander has submitted a 6.75 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 7.0 K/9 across 44 innings with Philadelphia.

The Phillies reinstated Anderson from the COVID-19-related injured list Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson was placed on the COVID-19-related IL for the second time this season June 10, but he's been healthy for quite some time, as he's made five rehab appearances at Lehigh Valley over the past three weeks. Though he was stretched out for starting duty during his time in the minors, Anderson is expected to fill a long-relief role in his return to Philadelphia.

Anderson (COVID-19 list) made his third rehab start for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, tossing 65 pitches (40 strikes) while working three innings and surrendering four earned runs on six hits, no walks and six strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson hasn't pitched for the Phillies since May 31 after being placed on the COVID-19-related list on two occasions. The right-hander resumed game action with the Triple-A club nearly a month later, and the Phillies appear to be building him up for starting duty. Given his poor results with the big club earlier this season (7.34 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 38 innings) and in light of his underwhelming outing Friday, Anderson likely won't warrant much consideration for the big-league rotation once activated. Instead, he'll presumably serve as a long-relief option if the Phillies don't elect to designate him for assignment.

Anderson returned to the COVID-19 injured list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
In a confusing turn of events, Anderson landed on the COVID-19 injured list Sunday before being removed Tuesday, only to head back to the list two days later. The short nature of his original stay suggests he was merely exposed to someone with the virus and didn't test positive himself, but it's possible he's since done so. Catcher Rafael Marchan was recalled in a corresponding move.

The Phillies reinstated Anderson (COVID-19) from the COVID-19 restricted list Tuesday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson appears to have avoided a bout with the virus, as he returns just two days after landing on the COVID-19 list. The righty is back with the Phillies for now, but he may not continue receiving opportunities if he can't improve upon his alarming 7.34 ERA.
