Since being bounced from the rotation after giving up seven runs in 1.1 innings in a May 16 loss to the Blue Jays, Anderson hasn't fared much better in a low-leverage relief role. In his first three outings out of the bullpen, Anderson has surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings.

Anderson will move to the bullpen, with Spencer Howard set to start in his place Saturday against the Red Sox, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Anderson won an Opening Day rotation spot but did very little to keep it, struggling to a 6.96 ERA and 1.61 WHIP through eight starts. Those numbers look worryingly similar to his 7.22 ERA and 1.63 WHIP from 2020. He'll make way for the Phillies' top pitching prospect for now, but it's possible he's needed in the rotation again soon, as Vince Velasquez's status remains uncertain after getting scratched from his Thursday start due to a numb finger.

Anderson's outing Sunday got off a rough start as he gave up home runs to Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette to lead off the game. He didn't fare much better in the second inning, as he allowed six consecutive batters to reach base before he was removed from the game. Anderson now has a 6.96 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 32.1 innings across eight starts in 2021. He could line up to make his next start at home against the Red Sox on Saturday.

The veteran right-hander lasted the bare minimum to qualify for the win, but he seemed to be in control while blanking Washington for five innings. After serving up a solo shot to Trea Turner and then walking Juan Soto to lead off the sixth, however, he got a quick hook. Anderson tossed 52 of 85 pitches for strikes, and he'll carry a 5.23 ERA and 26:15 K:BB through 31 innings into his next outing.

Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Brewers, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings while striking out two.

The right-hander got handed a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but Anderson couldn't last long enough to collect the resulting win as he needed 92 pitches (49 strikes) to record 13 outs. He has yet to pitching more than five innings in any start this season, and Anderson will take a 5.54 ERA and 21:14 K:BB through 26 innings into his next outing.

Anderson gave up a leadoff single to Pete Alonso in the sixth inning, and reliever JoJo Romero allowed him to score. The 33-year-old Anderson was at the plate for the Phillies' two runs Friday. He'll be in search of his first win this season when he takes the bump against the Mets on Friday.

The right-hander exited after throwing 70 pitches (47 strikes), but there was only one offering Anderson would like to have back -- a third-inning curveball he left over the plate that Brandon Belt deposited in the seats in right field for the game's only offense.
