Phillies signed RHP Chad Gaudin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Gaudin, 30, had a 3.06 ERA and 88/40 K/BB ratio in 97 innings last season with the Giants. With his ability to start or relieve, he could win a job in a swingman role.

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros are one of six teams with interest in free agent right-hander Chad Gaudin. Gaudin is surely looking for a place to start, but Drellich speculates that he could fit as a second experienced reliever along with Chad Qualls. The 30-year-old posted a 3.06 ERA and 88/40 K/BB ratio in 97 innings with the Giants this past season as a starter and reliever.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that it "seems unlikely" the Giants will re-sign Chad Gaudin. Gaudin pitched surprisingly well for the Giants in 2013, posting a 3.06 ERA with nearly a strikeout per inning across 30 appearances (12 starts). The veteran righty should get a guaranteed deal somewhere but might have to go back to the bullpen.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) is unlikely to return to the Giants this season. The veteran right-hander had hoped to rejoin the Giants bullpen for the final week of the regular season to prove his health before heading into free agency, but has yet to gain clearance to return and is quickly running out of time to do so.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) could return to the Giants on Saturday. The 30-year-old right-hander logged around 30 pitches in a simulated game on Friday without any issues. Provided he feels good on Saturday, he's likely to be activated from the disabled list and join the Giants bullpen. Heading into free agency this Winter, it would be beneficial for Gaudin to prove his health before the end of the 2013 season.

Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) played long-toss from 90 feet Thursday. Gaudin has been sidelined for over two weeks due to carpal tunnel syndrome, but he's just now resumed throwing. There's no timetable for his return, but obviously he's not terribly close. Yusmeiro Petit will continue to hold down a rotation spot until Gaudin is ready.
