Bettis (illness) is hopeful to come off the 60-day disabled list to start Aug. 13 against the Marlins, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bettis tossed 84 pitches while covering five innings in his rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Albuquerque, marking his fifth minor-league outing since receiving clearance from doctors to resume pitching following a bout with testicular cancer. The right-hander is expected to make one more start with Albuquerque early next week, and if all goes well, he'll rejoin the Rockies for his season debut. Manager Bud Black has been steadfast in his commitment to using Bettis in a starting role upon his activation, with Tyler Chatwood and/or Antonio Senzatela seemingly the most at risk of losing their rotation spots once that happens.

Bettis (illness) worked into the sixth inning Thursday for Triple-A Albuquerque, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports. Bettis allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks on 84 pitches. He struck out five and threw 55 strikes.
EDGE Analysis
It's a noteworthy milestone in his recovery from testicular cancer. Bettis likely will start for the Isotopes sometime next week as his final step before returning to the Rockies' rotation.

Bettis (illness) threw 62 pitches (38 strikes) in Sunday's rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque, completing 2.2 innings of three-run ball while allowing six hits, issuing two free passes and fanning four batters.
EDGE Analysis
The stat lines during Bettis' rehab assignment haven't been great, but the pitch count is more important at this point, and the right-hander was able to increase his workload once again. The expectation is that Bettis will make another rehab start with the Isotopes on Friday and throw roughly 80 pitches. After that, the Rockies will consider adding him to the major-league rotation.

Bettis (illness) is scheduled to make his next rehab start at Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports. He's expected to cover four innings and throw around 60 pitches.
EDGE Analysis
It will be the third rehab start overall for Bettis, who pitched for Double-A Hartford on July 13 and 18. Bettis didn't toss more than two innings in either outing, and with the Rockies previously indicating that the right-hander would be deployed as a starter following his return from the 60-day disabled list, it stands to reason that he'll need to build up his pitch count with at least one more rehab start beyond Sunday before an activation would be considered. Bettis has been sidelined all season after he was diagnosed with a recurrence of testicular cancer during spring training.

Bettis threw two no-hit innings Thursday with three strikeouts, no walks and an unearned run on 31 pitches for Double-A Hartford, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander starts his rehab assignment by making a strong claim to regain a rotation spot. Bettis is working his way back from a recurrence of testicular cancer and will probably at least one more rotation outing before he's summoned to the Rockies.

Bettis (illness) will start for Double-A Hartford on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
It's great news for the hurler, who's battled back from a return diagnosis of testicular cancer in March. Bettis probably will need a few outings to get his footing before he likely reclaims a spot in the Rockies' rotation. He's worth adding in NL-only leagues and perhaps some deep mixed games for starts away from Coors Field.

Bettis (illness) is expected to return to the Rockies as a starter at the end of his rehab assignment, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
With the plethora of young starting pitchers at Colorado's disposal this season, there was some speculation that the 28-year-old would come back as a reliever, but manager Bud Black quickly quelled those thoughts. "He's a starting pitcher," Black stated Tuesday. "Things are lining up. We've seen Chad throw off the mound for some time, with increasing intensity." This is likely a boon to Bettis' value if he can maintain a spot in the Rockies' rotation, although this development does mean he'll likely require a longer rehab stint, which could push his return date into August. He's expected to begin a rehab assignment over the All-Star break, beginning with a 30-pitch outing and ramping up his pitch count in roughly four more outings (similar to a spring training regimen). No word has come as to how the pitching staff will be shuffled when he's back, although there's a good chunk of time before that bridge needs to be crossed. The long and short of it is that Bettis is coming back as a starter and will likely be given a fair shake to act as the veteran presence the Rockies have been lacking all season.

Bettis (illness) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment during the All-Star break, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bettis is coming up on his final hurdle before being able to rejoin the major-league club. If everything goes smoothly during his rehab assignment, he'll likely be activated from the disabled list shortly after the All-Star break.

Bettis (illness) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bettis' methodical rehab program continues to chug along. Though he still has a ways to go before returning from the disabled list, it's great to see the reliever getting back into the swing of things after being re-diagnosed with testicular cancer in early-March. He's targeting a return sometime around the All-Star break.

Bettis (illness) is working to regain his stamina with the hope of throwing a bullpen session in the next two weeks, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
After winning his battle with testicular cancer, Bettis is getting back to his normal routine to get his arm ready for full action. The right-hander reportedly felt slightly winded after throwing from 75 and 90 feet Thursday, but he's still confident that he'll be able to return around the All-Star break. Much of that depends on how quickly he'll be able to get into bullpen sessions given that he hasn't pitched for several months, but a return sometime this summer seems like a very good possibility after there were thoughts that his career may be over.
