The Guardians selected Carrasco's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Carrasco's addition to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster was merely a formality after he was informed earlier in the week that he would be included in the Guardians' Opening Day rotation. The 37-year-old right-hander is lined up to make his first start Sunday in Oakland.

Carrasco will open in the Guardians' rotation and make his season debut Sunday against the Athletics, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The presumption after it was announced Carrasco had made the team was that it would be as part of the rotation, and that has now been confirmed. His stay in the rotation could be a brief one, depending on how quickly Gavin Williams (elbow) makes it back, but Carrasco should log at least a couple starts. The 37-year-old held a 6.80 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 66:38 K:BB over 90 innings (20 starts) for the Mets last season.

Carrasco has been informed that he has made the Guardians' Opening Day roster.
EDGE Analysis
He has not yet been officially added to the 26-man and 40-man rosters, but Carrasco has been told he'll head north with the big club. The veteran right-hander could even open in the rotation while Gavin Williams (elbow) recovers. Carrasco has posted a 2.57 ERA and 9:6 K:BB over 14 innings this spring.

Carrasco (finger) will start Saturday's Grapefruit League opener against the Reds, Nick Camino of WKYC Channel 3 Cleveland reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carrasco underwent surgery to repair a fractured finger in September but is ready for game action early in spring training. The 36-year-old joined the Guardians as a non-roster invitee after he posted a 6.80 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 66:38 K:BB over 90 innings (20 starts) for the Mets last season.

Carrasco (finger) signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Saturday and received an invitation to major-league spring training, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carrasco pitched for Cleveland between 2009-20 and will return for his second stint with the franchise after three years with the Mets. Carrasco put up a 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP through 90 innings across 20 starts last season, and his campaign was cut short in September by a fractured finger. Given the strength of Cleveland's rotation, it's unlikely the 36-year-old lands a starting job, but he could operate as a multi-inning reliever for the big-league club if he turns in a solid spring.

Carrasco was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a fracture of his right fifth finger and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carrasco had been listed as the probable starter for Wednesday's series finale at Washington, but the Mets will now have to pivot after the veteran right-hander fractured the pinky on his throwing hand Sunday in a weight room incident. It'll be a season-ending setback for Carrasco, who finishes with an ugly 6.80 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 66:38 K:BB across 90 innings (20 starts) with New York. He is scheduled to become a free agent in November.

Carrasco will remain with the Mets after going unclaimed ahead of Thursday's waiver deadline, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carrasco drew no interest from other teams after being placed on waivers by the Mets on Tuesday. There's a still a chunk of money remaining on his $14 million salary for 2023 and he's posted a rough 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 90 innings (20 starts) this season with New York. The 36-year-old right-hander is set to become a free agent in November.

Mets manager Buck Showalter said that Carrasco will be available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Showalter's comments come one day after Carrasco was placed on waivers, but he'll remain active and available for the Mets until another team claims him. Given that Carrasco is owed the money remaining on his $14 million salary for 2023 and has pitched to a 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 90 innings this season, he may not attract much interest, even for pitching-needy clubs in playoff contention. Showalter hasn't clarified whether Carrasco's move to the bullpen is a permanent one, so the veteran right-hander could conceivably make a start this weekend versus Seattle if he doesn't get claimed and if he isn't needed in relief Wednesday.

The Mets placed Carrasco on waivers Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carrasco can be scooped up by another team with a simple waiver claim, if that team is willing to cover what remains of his $14 million salary for the 2023 season. The veteran right-hander has struggled to a 6.80 ERA and 66:38 K:BB through 90 innings (20 starts) in his age-36 campaign.

Carrasco (3-8) took the loss against the Angels on Saturday, allowing five runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out one batter over 1.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Carrasco didn't have a great first inning, but he escaped having yielded just one run. Things got much worse for him in the second, when the Angels racked up five hits -- including two doubles, a triple and a homer -- and scored four runs before he could get three outs. Carrasco was pulled having gone a season-low 1.2 frames, and this was the eighth time on the campaign he's given up at least five runs in an outing. The veteran's season ERA now stands at an unsightly 6.80, and it's even worse at 10.24 over 29 innings since the All-Star break.
