According to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, Giants closer Brian Wilson has structural damage in his elbow and faces possible surgery.
Uh oh. Shea also mentions that Wilson will possibly be meeting with Dr. James Andrews, which is never good news. Should Wilson need surgery, he'd be unlikely to return and contribute for the remainder of the season. In this case, Sergio Romo would step in as the likely closer and take on tremendous value in fantasy leagues everywhere. Stay tuned for further updates.

Brian Wilson calls his Thursday ankle injury a "nonfactor."
All the same, manager Bruce Bochy said Wilson won't be available for Friday's home opener after pitching on back-to-back days in Colorado. In addition to tweaking his ankle, Wilson needed 32 pitches to close out Thursday's 4-2 win, and surrendered a run in the process. Sergio Romo or Jeremy Affeldt will serve as stopper on Friday, with Wilson likely to be fine by Saturday.

Brian Wilson picked up a shaky save Thursday, but he turned his ankle and won't pitch Friday.
Wilson gave up a run and three hits before finishing off the Rockies today. The ankle has him day-to-day, but he should be back this weekend. Sergio Romo or Jeremy Affeldt could get a save chance Friday.

Brian Wilson is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game Thursday.
Wilson didn't pitch Wednesday, as many expected he would, but Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said he was fine and never scheduled to throw. Unless the Giants are trying to be extra-secretive and sneaky, we have no reason to think Wilson won't be ready for Opening Day.

Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said that Brian Wilson is fine and was never scheduled to pitch Wednesday.
Wilson was originally expected to make an appearance Wednesday, but there was apparently some miscommunication about his schedule. The bearded closer had some elbow inflammation last season and dealt with some arm fatigue earlier this spring, but Bochy is downplaying any health concerns. We'll have to take his word for it for now.
