Brett Cecil will miss his next three starts with Double-A New Hampshire due to a groin injury.
Cecil suffered the injury in a start last Thursday. He was erratic even before the injury, so rookie right-hander Drew Hutchison should get a chance to sink-or-swim in the major league rotation for the foreseeable future.

Brett Cecil left his start with Double-A New Hampshire Thursday due to an apparent upper leg injury.
Further details aren't available at this time, but at least the ailment doesn't appear to be arm related. We'll update Cecil's status when more is known. The left-hander was a surprise cut just before the season, as he had been expected to break camp as a member of Toronto's rotation.

Blue Jays optioned LHP Brett Cecil to Double-A New Hampshire.
This is a minor surprise. Cecil entered spring training as a favorite for a rotation spot, but after pitching well in his first four outings, he gave up 11 runs on 15 hits and six walks over his final two spring starts. Joel Carreno and Kyle Drabek are now expected to follow Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow and Henderson Alvarez in the starting rotation.

Brett Cecil was pounded for nine runs -- seven earned -- in four innings by the Tigers on Monday.
Cecil started off the spring with four strong outings, but he struggled in his last two to finish up with a 6.48 ERA. The Jays can't be feeling too great about him as their No. 4 starter with his velocity still down somewhat. It figures to be a bumpy ride.

Brett Cecil struggled against the Rays on Friday night, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks over 2 2/2 innings.
Oh, and he also threw a wild pitch. Cecil had allowed just one run over 10 innings this spring prior to Friday's outing, but there have been some lingering concerns about his velocity. He's slated to begin the year in the starting rotation, but it's difficult to recommend him in fantasy leagues when he calls the American League East home.

Brett Cecil pitched three scoreless innings as a Jays split-squad beat the Twins 8-2 on Tuesday.
Cecil looks a whole lot different down 30 pounds this spring, and the results so far have been impressive, as he's allowed just a couple of hits in six scoreless innings. He could make for a nice $1-$2 pick in AL-only leagues.

Brett Cecil is the current favorite to open the 2012 season as Toronto's fifth starter.
But anything could change over the offseason or during spring training. Kyle Drabek, Deck McGuire, Nestor Molina, Drew Hutchinson and Chad Jenkins will also be vying for the job. Cecil, 25, posted a 4.73 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 20 starts this season.

Brett Cecil (finger) threw a successful bullpen session Saturday and has been cleared to start Tuesday.
Cecil was scratched from Friday's outing after cutting his left index finger while cleaning a blender in the visitors' clubhouse on Wednesday, but he winds up just being pushed back a few days. Cecil has put together a nice second half, posting a 3.79 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 11 starts.

Brett Cecil (finger) is expected to miss just one start.
Cecil was scratched from Friday's start after cutting his left index finger while cleaning a blender in the visitors' clubhouse on Wednesday. "[He] came in yesterday, tried to throw some on flat ground and felt through the repetition, as he was going through it, that the cut on the index finger was probably going to open up even more if we continued to go forward or pitch today," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. Dustin McGowan is starting Friday in Cecil's place.

Brett Cecil has been scratched from his Friday evening start against the Yankees with a cut finger.
Presumably, the injury is to his pitching hand. Dustin McGowan, who has allowed seven runs on eight hits and eight walks in seven innings since being recalled in early September, will get the start in his place. Look for a number of Yankees to pad their statistics this evening.
