Brett Cecil (groin) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.
Cecil reported no issues when throwing off a mound on Friday and looks as though he'll only require the minimal amount of time on the disabled list. Barring any setbacks, he could be cleared to rejoin the Jays bullpen before the end of next week.

Brett Cecil (groin) threw a bullpen session Friday.
It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since going on the DL over a week ago with a groin ailment. Cecil's timetable hasn't been established, but he seems likely to be ready in early July if he can avoid setbacks.

Brett Cecil was forced to leave Friday's game against the Orioles in the eighth inning due to tightness in his groin.
He's set to be further evaluated on Saturday, where a determination will be made on his status. Cecil hopes to avoid the disabled list, but has dealt with similar injuries in the past that did require him to hit the shelf for awhile.

Brett Cecil was removed from Friday's game against the Orioles in the eighth inning with an apparent injury.
Cecil felt something after delivering a pitch to Chris Davis, and was quickly greeted by the training staff who made the call to pull him. The Blue Jays should have an update on his status after the conclusion of the game.

Brett Cecil notched his third save of the season Saturday against the Athletics.
R.A. Dickey got the first out of the ninth inning, but was pulled after allowing a hit and a walk. Dustin McGowan then gave up a single to load the bases before Cecil entered to retire Jed Lowrie on a sacrifice fly and strike out Alberto Callaspo swinging. Casey Janssen was unavailable Saturday after appearing in three out of the previous four games, but he should be good to go Sunday.

Brett Cecil netted his second save of the 2014 season on Monday, working a perfect inning to preserve a 3-0 win over the Phillies.
The Blue Jays appear set with the idea of utilizing a closer-by-committee approach until Casey Janssen returns from the disabled list, making any of the late-inning options difficult to trust. Cecil has been good out of the Jays bullpen this season, registering a 3.68 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 24/9 K/BB ratio in 14 2/3 innings.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Tuesday that the club considered moving Brett Cecil back to the rotation during the season.
"We never talked to Brett about it, but we kicked it around for a brief moment because obviously he had success and we had holes that had come up," said Anthopoulos. After years of scuffling as a starter, Cecil found a home in the bullpen this season, posting a 2.82 ERA and 70/23 K/BB ratio over 60 2/3 innings prior to going down with elbow inflammation. The Blue Jays plan to prioritize starting pitching this winter, so ideally Cecil will stay where he is.
