Blue Jays optioned LHP Brett Cecil to Triple-A Las Vegas. Cecil's hasn't been particularly effective in years and hasn't been more than a control-challenged left-handed specialist for longer than that. J.A. Happ is will be promoted from the bullpen to replace him in the starting rotation.

Brett Cecil gave up four runs in five innings in a no-decision against the A's on Friday. Cecil had turned in three straight quality starts with his rotation spot on the line. Tonight's outing wasn't quite so solid, but his spot should be safe for now, even though he's gone five straight outings without a victory.

Brett Cecil was quality in Sunday's loss to the Tigers, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven. Cecil was done in by one big mistake, a three-run blast off the bat of Jhonny Peralta in the second inning. The quality start was his third straight, and fourth in five July outings. He'll bring a 5.56 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 41/18 K/BB ratio compiled over 45 1/3 innings into the month of August.

Brett Cecil turned in a decent performance in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees, allowing three runs on six hits over his six frames. Cecil racked up five strikeouts while walking two. All of the damage came on one mistake pitch to Andruw Jones in the second inning, which was promptly deposited into the seats in left field. Cecil hasn't pitched very well over his first six starts for the Blue Jays, going 2-2 with a horrifying 6.34 ERA. He'll look to carry over the momentum from this decent outing when he takes on the Athletics at home on Tuesday.

Brett Cecil was quality Tuesday against the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings in the 6-3 victory. He struck out three on the night. Cecil was rocked in his last start against the Angels, but he's pitched pretty well the other three times since being recalled. He'll take a 5.64 ERA and 1.43 WHIP into this weekend's start against the White Sox.

Brett Cecil was blasted in a loss to the Angles on Thursday to the tune of eight runs on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings of work. He did manage to rack up six strikeouts while walking two, but he was clearly far too hittable on the evening. He surrendered three home runs in the game (Mark Trumbo, Alberto Callaspo and Mike Trout), accounting for five of the eight runs allowed. Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, they don't have any other options to turn to, and Cecil's spot in the rotation will remain safe for the foreseeable future. He'll take the hill again on Tuesday where he'll battle the Royals at home.

Brett Cecil held the Marlins to one run over six-plus innings on Saturday, but walked away with a no-decision. Cecil scattered five hits while walking three and striking out a pair. He was pulled from the game after giving up a bunt single to Justin Ruggiano and a game-tying RBI double to Omar Infante to begin the seventh. The 27-year-old left-hander has allowed three runs in 11 innings (2.45 ERA) in two starts since his call-up from Triple-A Las Vegas and should continue to hold down a rotation spot for now. He's worth a look in AL-only leagues.

Making his season debut, Brett Cecil held the Phillies to two runs on five hits in five innings of work Sunday, picking up the win in Toronto's 6-2 victory. Cecil struck out five, walked one and surrendered a pair of solo home runs. Not a bad start to his season after he was surprisingly demoted to Triple-A to begin the season. Coming off a 2011 where he posted a 4.73 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 87/42 K/BB ratio across 123 2/3 innings, he should be worth a flier in AL-only leagues.

Blue Jays recalled LHP Brett Cecil from Triple-A Las Vegas. He'll get the ball Sunday against the Phillies. Cecil surprisingly lost out on a rotation spot with a poor spring training and has spent most of the season at Double-A, just recently being bumped up to Las Vegas. He's pitched pretty well of late, though and holds a 3.47 ERA and 40/14 K/BB ratio over 49 1/3 innings between the two levels. It's possible he'll churn out some AL-only value.

Brett Cecil has been activated from the minor league disabled list and will start Wednesday at Double-A. Cecil missed a little over two weeks because of a groin injury. The lefty will try to work his way up to the majors this summer with strong performances down on the farm.
