Brandon McCarthy tossed six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision Wednesday versus the Cardinals.
McCarthy got no runs of support while he was in the game and the Cardinals eventually won in extra innings. The right-hander has been excellent in two straight starts against tough-hitting teams and will try to keep it rolling next week when he faces the Padres at home.

Brandon McCarthy held the Nationals to one run over eight innings and struck out seven in a no-decision Wednesday.
McCarthy had one ugly, ugly inning last week against the White Sox, but apart from that, he's been dominant the last couple of weeks. With his velocity up, he can remain a useful mixed-league pitcher.

Brandon McCarthy shut out the Padres for seven innings, allowing just three hits, to win Saturday for the first time this season.
He was facing the game's worst offense, but McCarthy still would have fared well against a quality lineup with the way he was throwing tonight. His velocity has been up all year long, and his ERA will continue to shrink if he stays healthy. He has some mixed-league value right now.

Brandon McCarthy allowed two runs over seven innings, striking out 12, in a loss to the Phillies on Sunday.
The start was easily McCarthy's best of the young season, but he still took his fifth loss for his efforts. The right-hander gave up seven hits and a walk in the start. His 12 strikeouts was a career high for a single game, as his previous career-best mark was 10. Hopefully trending upward, McCarthy will continue to look for his first win Saturday at the Padres.

Brandon McCarthy allowed five runs -- one earned -- on seven hits over five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.
McCarthy looked as though he was going to get out of the fifth inning unharmed, but a fielding error by Martin Prado gave the Cubs an extra out. They used to put up four runs, with the big damage coming on a Mike Olt three-run homer. It's hard to give McCarthy too much of the benefit of the doubt, though, as the loss dropped him to 0-4 with a 6.23 ERA. The Phillies get to face the struggling right-hander on Sunday.

Brandon McCarthy allowed three runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mets on Wednesday.
At least McCarthy kept the opposition under five runs this time. The right-hander is now 0-3 with a 7.11 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through four starts, an extension of his team's struggles to start the year. Maybe his fortune will turn Tuesday when the Diamondbacks visit the Cubs.

Brandon McCarthy gave up six runs in six innings against the Rockies to take a loss on Saturday
With 11 earned runs in 12 2/3 innings so far, McCarthy's 2014 has started exactly like his 2013. He gave up 12 runs -- 10 earned -- in 11 2/3 innings in his first two start of last year on his way to going 0-3 with a 7.48 ERA in April. Next up for him is the Dodgers, so he's not a great play in NL-only leagues.

Brandon McCarthy yielded five runs in 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Opening Day.
McCarthy pitched better than the line indicated, but he came unglued near the end and the bullpen did more damage. The veteran right-hander allowed six hits while striking out four and walking one. While we saw more velocity than normal on Monday, it's tough to rely on McCarthy as anything more than a matchup pitcher in mixed fantasy leagues.

Brandon McCarthy recorded a quality start in Wednesday's start against the Cubs, allowing three runs in six innings.
McCarthy allowed six hits and walked one while striking out six. His Cactus League ERA sits at a solid 2.70 with 12 strikeouts and three walks in 20 innings. McCarthy will oppose Madison Bumgarner of the Giants in the D'Backs' home opener.

Brandon McCarthy pitched well in his third Cactus League start on Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings against the White Sox.
The 30-year-old right-hander fanned two without walking a batter on the afternoon. McCarthy now owns a 1.93 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 6/2 K/BB ratio over 11 innings this spring. His lack of strikeouts keep his fantasy value down, making him a decent option as a backend starter of streaming option that can be had cheaply near the end of drafts.
