Bartolo Colon didn't get a qualifying offer from the A's. The A's also opted against making a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer to closer Grant Balfour. Neither player will be tied to draft pick compensation this winter.

Bartolo Colon is interested in returning to the Athletics. Athletics general manager Billy Beane said earlier this month that they would be "foolish" to not want to bring Colon back, so there's mutual interest here. "They've expressed interest," said Colon's agent, Adam Katz. "Bartolo loved his time there and would be interested in (talking to them)." The 40-year-old made $3 million this season while posting 18 wins to go along with a 2.65 ERA, so a raise is surely in his future.

Athletics general manager Billy Beane said Friday that the team would be "foolish" not to want to try re-signing Bartolo Colon. Colon put up a 2.65 ERA while winning 18 games for the A's this season after a 2012 campaign that saw him put up a 3.43 mark. The 40-year-old made $3 million this season and will surely want a raise, but he also isn't going to require more than a one-year commitment. Colon has also expressed interest in re-signing with the A's.

Bartolo Colon was doomed by a rough first inning in a losing effort against the Tigers in Game 1 of the ALDS on Friday. Colon allowed three runs on 10 hits over his six innings of work on the night, striking out four in the process. The Tigers bats came roaring out of the gate, stringing together four hits and a hit batsmen to scratch out three runs against the veteran right-hander in the first inning. He settled in masterfully afterwards though, keeping his team in the ballgame, but Max Scherzer was simply too much on the other side of the diamond. Colon will likely toe the slab again should the series require a decisive fifth game in Oakland on Thursday.

Bartolo Colon will start for the A's in Game 1 of the ALDS on Friday against the Tigers. Colon earned that start by going 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 30 regular-season outings. He'll be followed by Sonny Gray in Game 2, Jarrod Parker in Game 3 and Dan Straily in Game 4. Colon would return for a Game 5.

Bartolo Colon pitched six innings of two-run ball for the win as the A's beat the Mariners 8-2 on Friday. Colon barely held on and kept his ERA under Hisashi Iwakuma's, 2.65 to 2.66. That puts him in position for the AL ERA title if Anibal Sanchez, at 2.64, falters at all versus the Marlins on Saturday. Colon is also second in the AL with 18 wins after prevailing in his final four starts. He allowed a total of five earned runs in his last six starts.

Bartolo Colon struck out eight in six innings and combined with two relievers on a shutout of the Twins on Friday. Tommy Milone and Evan Scribner finished up the 11-0 game. Colon has allowed a total of one run while winning his last three starts. He's tied for second in the AL with 17 wins, and he's second to Anibal Sanchez with a 2.73 ERA. He's going to belong somewhere on Cy Young ballots, though it'll be interesting to see if he gets those votes or not.

Bartolo Colon tossed eight scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over the Rangers on Saturday. Colon scattered seven hits while walking one batter and fanning seven. The veteran right-hander hadn't thrown more than six innings in his previous three starts since coming off the disabled list, but he's rounding into form at just the right time for the Athletics. He'll bring a 2.73 ERA into a start against the Twins next week.

Bartolo Colon surrendered just one run on five hits over his six innings of work in Sunday's victory over the Astros. The 40-year-old right-hander racked up seven strikeouts on the afternoon. He continues to be one of the biggest surprises in all of baseball this season, compiling a 15-6 record, 2.85 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 94/26 K/BB ratio over 170 1/3 innings. He'll look to continue his impressive run when he does battle against the Rangers in Texas on Saturday.

Bartolo Colon gave up four runs -- only one of which was earned -- over five innings of Tuesday's defeat at the hands of Texas. He struck out three and walked none, but Colon surrendered eight hits to a strong Texas offense and couldn't pitch around his mistakes (or, to be fair, the mistakes of his defense). The hero of all sedentary, overweight middle-aged baseball fans, Colon falls to 14-6 with a 2.90 ERA.
