With 12 home runs and a .401 on-base percentage on the season, Marwin Gonzalez is making it increasingly difficult for manager A.J. Hinch to justify keeping him out of the lineup, especially while Bregman (.171 average in June) continues to languish. Gonzalez's ability to play all over the diamond and in the outfield means that he won't steal at-bats exclusively from Bregman, but the young third baseman's ongoing struggles make him one of the more vulnerable players.

Bregman finished 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI against the Angels on Friday.

After homering in each of the final three days of May, Bregman had not put one over the fence in June until Friday. It hasn't been easy for Bregman this season, so he likely needs any confidence he can build from positive results. However, it does not seem, at least right now, that a significant amount of his playing time is in jeopardy.

He's now homered in three straight games, and all six of his long balls on the season have come since May 14. Bregman has a very slow start to the year at the plate, but fantasy GMs who were patient with him -- or who took a chance on him while he was struggling -- are now beginning to reap the rewards.

He's opened this series by homering in its first two games, and Bregman now has four long balls to go with a .294 average, six RBI, six runs and a steal over his last nine contests. That doesn't exactly qualify as a breakout, but Bregman is slowly pulling up his stats after a stone-cold start. It took him a while to warm up to major-league pitching last year, too, so don't be surprised if he suddenly goes on a tear now that he's starting to feel good at the plate.

Bregman sports a respectable .254 batting average, but Monday's homer was just his 15th extra-base hit of the season and improved his slugging percentage to a disappointing .393. Additionally, this was just his fourth multi-hit game in May. It's probably wise to remain patient with the youngster, though. Bergman owns oodles of upside and is a mainstay in a dangerous lineup.

Bregman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles.

EDGE Analysis

Bregman seems to have broken out of his season-long power outage with three homers and three doubles in the last two weeks, but he's still been unable to make up much ground with his batting average, which sits at a disappointing .250 for the campaign. After going 1-for-11 with five strikeouts over his previous three games, Bregman will hit the bench for the day game after the night game, allowing Marwin Gonzalez to pick up a start at the hot corner.

Bregman went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to Detroit.

EDGE Analysis

Bregman's season has been notable for its lack of power as the young third baseman entered Wednesday with a .359 slugging percentage. But he's trended upward in May with nine of his 36 hits going for extra bases, including all three of his homers, increasing the slugging from .310 at the start the month to .395 after Wednesday's seven total bases. Ideally, a team is looking for more pop out of its third baseman but Bregman, who came up through the minors as a shortstop, has been hitting more like a middle infielder.
