Bregman's season has been notable for its lack of power as the young third baseman entered Wednesday with a .359 slugging percentage. But he's trended upward in May with nine of his 36 hits going for extra bases, including all three of his homers, increasing the slugging from .310 at the start the month to .395 after Wednesday's seven total bases. Ideally, a team is looking for more pop out of its third baseman but Bregman, who came up through the minors as a shortstop, has been hitting more like a middle infielder.

Hinch is satisfied with the 23-year-old where he is in the order, getting more comfortable with major-league pitching and getting on base.

That said, Bregman has been starting to find a groove lately -- although he is hitting just .265/.360/.316, he is working on a seven-game hitting streak and has drawn three walks over his past four games. His power has yet to show up, but slugging numbers tend to be the slowest to stabilize -- he's just one hot week away from getting back to the .478 slugging percentage he posted in 2016.

Bregman returned to the lineup Monday after getting a day off Sunday. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Houston's 6-2 win over Texas.

Bregman batted eighth Monday after he was dropped to ninth in his previous game. The young third baseman has hit safely in 10 of the last 11 games but has just two RBI during that run and has recently found himself in the lower third of the batting order.

According to Kaplan, it's strictly a rest day for Bregman, who has come out the gate a bit sluggish this season with a .250/.340/.310 batting line across 98 plate appearances. Manager A.J. Hinch attributed some of Bregman's early struggles to the youngster's unorthodox spring training schedule due to the World Baseball Classic, but the Astros remain optimistic he'll heat up before long. Marwin Gonzalez will spell Bregman at third base Sunday.
